We're outspent in recruiting budget by a lot of schools. I wonder how much

it would help our recruiting if we at least doubled our budget? We certainly bring in more revenue than Clemson and we surely cant allow them to outspend us in recruiting.

I don't get it either. I also don't get why we don't recruit nationally instead of only certain areas. What in the world are we spending all of our money on???

I don't care what Clemson does. What are our peers in the conference who are continually successful spending on recruiting? Spend that! Just effing win Ray.

Haven't been on campus lately, have you?

BTW, when did blowing a pile of money become a good thing?? Oh, when it became a news story where the media turned that into a positive for Clemson and a negative for USC. I suppose if Clemson spent less than USC, the story would've been "Clemson gets more for their money than USC". And the people just buy whatever the media tells you to think. Good job not having any independent thoughts of your own.

I beleive we rank towards the bottom in the SEC as far as recruiting

spending goes. I'm not criticizing here. I just wonder what other schools spend so much money on and if there's a philosophical reason we don't spend more? Is there a benefit cost analysis as to spending more money on recruiting = better recruiting classes? I'm interested to hear any thoughts, especially on what other schools spend so much money on (besides hookers).

It's a fact, the football programs that do the best (overall winning and titles) spend the most towards the football programs. Even the taters proved you could buy a Nat'l title. We need to up the ante, we've done well at making upgrades to the stadium area, and yesterday with an upgrade at DC, next we need to get the recruiting budget in line with the top schools, and GET some coaches that will recruit their asses off with that money.

I would like to see Mangus expand to Ohio. There are a lot of good prospects in that state. Plus we can offer them a change in scenery/temp. Brewer was from there.

Tougher to sell the fact that you won 1 game in 6 against your rival in the last 6 years.....But keep on spending cash and believing what you want to believe....

I can live with 5 losses in 6 years to USC, as long as we're improving. And we are. Congrats on winning 5 in a row. It IS quite an accomplishment, no doubt.

If that were the case then Clemson is definitely paying players. Lol.

Re: I beleive we rank towards the bottom in the SEC as far as recruiting

The article on Clemson in USA Today informed that they hired Thad Turnipseed from Alabama to replicate a smaller version of Alabama's player personnel department. Alabama has 16 operation coordinators, player development directors, and football analyst. They have a staff of people dedicated to the logistic side of recruiting.

When you say outspent... What do you mean by that??? Sending coaches out to make visits? Or give recruits pocket money?

World Famous, no I don't mean pay players. The official amounts reported

by schools for their recruiting budget. I'm not sure of what all it entails. If Clemson spends close to $4 million and we're near the bottom of the SEC at something around $1.8 million we need to up the ante to $5 million. USC brings in a lot more revenue that Clemson could ever hope to. Football drives the revenue for for rest of the athletics department. There really is no excuse to be outspent by Clemson in anything or to be at the bottom of the SEC. If we really want to challenge for SEC championships this must change.

Hard to tell if this was photoshopped, but if real, it seems unintentionally funny

I have to imagine the amount of money the AD has been investing in facilities is far more than our rivals over the same time period.

Guess y'all haven't even considered the real reason our budget is low. It has nothing to do with there being a cap or limit on how much we are allowed to spend.

I know. It's just that old faulty way of thinking. Have a problem? Just throw more money at it.

Carolina's "product" is head & shoulder's above the one from the upstate.....1 win doesn't a dynasty make.....what we lack is a lying, win at all costs, snake oil salesman as a head coach who tells recruits and their families exactly what they want to hear rather than what they need to hear. Clemson won't win another one in the foreseeable future.

UT spends the most in the SEC, but they have to recruit nationally. We're in the middle of a bunch of talent rich metro areas. Clemson does a great job in FLA for whatever reason. I'm surprised we haven't done more there given spurrier's ties, but we did have a bunch of FLA guys in his early classes. Seems like other than instate, metro-atlanta and jawja overall have been our priority, then get GA to add a few from the mid-atlantic/northeast. I've always thought we should do more in NC. Our best class was they year UT and UNC were in transition and we pullled Ingram, Culliver and Robertson from NC. NC has major talent and no major football school. Don't just lock down the state, lock down the Carolinas.

Dr Tony, Clemson does not have an inherent advantage over Carolina, other than picking a few positives and hammer it in until everyone starts to believe it. It is all about a belief and selling that belief.

Carolina must step up to a standard and never waver on that belief...it will become reality...it just has to be heard over and over and over!

One more thing Dr Tony, remember this, we beat your best 5 in a row. Your Tigers still haven't proven they can beat our best, you only beat us when we aren't very good. No way you can spin it, it is a fact no matter what you say... You can't beat our best! We beat your best REPEATEDLY!

My thoughts changed considerably about the real truth about recruiting after I read the article about "The Bagman"
I don't think that the coaches have as much to do with kids picking one school over another as much as you think.
I agree that there are exceptions but the majority goes where the money is!!!!
Google the article and draw your own conclusion.
Maybe the coaches do all they can but at the end of the day the,,, $$$$$$ talk
