- Unclear coaching problems that are not controllable and that become more severe or change once the college football season has begun
- Predictable relapses following improvement in the condition
- Extensive knowledge of college politics and/or college football terminology
- Presence of multiple unforced and embarrassing losses
- Appearance of new or additional symptoms following an embarrassing loss
- Presence of symptoms only when the coach is with players or the press
- Willingness or eagerness to have repeated discussion of problems games, terrible coaching, etc. as to blame on others
