Sorry if this has been done here before.

One of my favorite performances was Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will be Blood". He was incredible in my opinion and completely transformative to his role as a ruthless oil pioneer.

Would love to hear your opinions and maybe get some ideas of different movies to watch in the future.

Al Pacino in Scent of a woman. Clark Gable- Gone with the Wind. Gregory Peck- To Kill a Mockingbird.
Jodie Foster- Silence of the Lambs. And there are probably more.

Pacino in "Scent of a Woman?" He's a caricature of himself, overacting at every opportunity. I'd have put that performance on a list of "Worst Ever", but so be it.

I thought William H Macy was fantastic in Fargo.

Levon Helm playing Old Gun specialist Mr. Rate in Shooter. If you don’t know who I’m referring to YouTube link is below.

George C. Scott....channels Patton.

Bruno Ganz in "Downfall" as Adolf Hitler. Even gets the accent right. Maybe best pure performance I have ever seen. If you are a WWII Buff and haven't seen this, what are you waiting on?

Tom Hanks Private Ryan.

Leonardo de Caprio as Howard Hughes in The Aviator.

Bill Murray in Lost in Translation.

Bill Murray in What About Bob?
Russell Crowe in Gladiator
Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator
Kurt Russell in Captain Ron
Tom Hanks in Apollo 13
Jack Palance & Billy Crystal in City Slickers
Daniel Stern in Home Alone
Will Ferrell in Step Brothers
Val Kilmer in Tombstone

Seriously, I don’t pretend to know good acting when I see it. But I loved those movies.

Andy Griffith in "A Face in the Crowd". If you only know him for The Andy Griffith Show or Matlock, this will be a shock to the system. His performance will make you despise him within the first fifteen minutes of the movie. He should have won the Best Actor Oscar for that performance.

There was a lot more to Andy Griffith than met the eye.

Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino.

You can see the character arc unfolding and how it changes Walt, while not changing who he is fundamentally.

HMs to Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds. Hard to take an unassuming and even goofy personality like Colonel Hans Landa and turn him into one of the most terrifying men in the German Army.

Brad Pitt in Fight Club (honestly, all the subtleties in this film deserve a better breakdown than I could give here, and Pitt really sells that he is the alter ego of a psychotically broken man)

Liam Neeson in the Grey. A terribly stressful movie about survival in the wild after a plane crash. I couldn't watch it a second time. It was just one of those that hits you in the feels and keeps wrenching that knife deeper.

Jamie Fox in Django Unchained.

Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York. Sure There will be Blood was one of the greatest movies ever, and his performance there was notable. And everyone else in this thread has listed it. I thought I'd go a different route. Bill the Butcher was a great character and was brought to life by Lewis as he dug deep and even in such an over the top movie, he managed to make Bill a believable character.
