What's the difference....

That's was just a terrible call on Legree, no way you call a pass interference on a ball that is played by two players like that. As for the super bowl you don't throw a flag that late in the game.

Horrible call... I had forgotten about that. And you're right, its essentially the exact same situation that ended the Super Bowl.

I don't understand what the officials expected Legree to do in that situation. Was he supposed to wait for Hopkins to catch the ball and then attempt to knock his head off. Isn't that what the rules-makers want to avoid?

IMO, the rules should encourage defensive backs to make a play on the ball; it's a simple way to make the game safer.

I remember this play. At the time, I called a friend who played college football to get his opinion on the play. He played for PC in the 80s, but is a huge Gamecock fan and klempsun hater. Anyway, he thought it was clearly interference and explained it to me at the time. It made sense at the time, but I don't remember what he told me.

Ahhhh 2012, back when Ward was a good coach!

Funny how all of a sudden, after two years of top 20 Ds, one bad season means he should be fired. That PI was clearly Whammy's fault. He taught the DBs to TRy to get PI called as often as possible.., just like he told our Linemen not to tackle the QB this season, and our safeties to take bad angles when pursuing ball carriers, and basically everyone on D to tackle by lightly running into someone and falling over- making sure not to do anything to impede their ability to continue running like wrapping your arms around them or taking out their legs... See that must be what he is coaching people to do right? Otherwise, the problems we had this season were on the players making bad plays.... Or just not being good enough, but all the experts here say it is whammy's fault so he must be teaching them to do this stuff! Right?

The difference is being 1 yd from the line of scrimmage in the super bowl where contact is somewhat allowed

The difference was, it should have been offensive pass interference on Watkins. That ball was thrown right to Legree and Watkins coming from the outside ran into him.

He was never a good DC. We just didn't realize how much he sucked then playing with the defense Ellis Johnson and Brad Lawing built and he eventually destroyed. The same way Darrin Horn had success with Dave Odom's basketball team the firts two years before he turned it to crap. It takes time for a coach's inner suck to show.

You wouldn't be saying that if the teams were reversed. You better mind your manners on our board.

The defender has a right to make a play on the ball too. And they sometimes beat your 5-star receiver to the spot your 5-star QB is throwing it to. Horrible call and I bet it was used as an example of what is not pass interference.
