So the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft are over with three current Gamecocks (Clarke Schmidt, Wil Crowe and Tyler Johnson) and one signee (Luis Campusano) taken in the league's first 10 rounds.
The general standard for players signing is if a player is selected in the first 10 rounds, then he'll likely ink a professional contract. I expect all four players to sign. Meetings with teams are going to happen after the draft.
LT Tolbert, a draft-eligible sophomore, didn't go very high and the chance he returns to Columbia is getting higher.
So attention turns to the 2017 recruiting class with the main focus on five recruits: Kyle Jacobsen, Logan Chapman, Carmen Mlodzinski, Noah Campbell and Ian Jenkins.
Jacobsen is the highest-rated player in the Gamecocks' 2017 class and the longer the draft goes, the chances he enrolls in school increases. Slot values for picks start near $130,000, so the bonuses for players are tiny. I think there's a real chance he comes to school.
Chapman is a guy who had a high price point coming into this week and really wanted to pitch at South Carolina. I think he'll come to school as well, which could be a big get.
Mlodzinski is almost just like Chapman. According to an article, he's enrolling in school. This is another big get since the Gamecocks are losing a lot of innings.
Noah Campbell is still a threat to get drafted and said it would take a lot for him to go in the draft, and he could still go. He mentioned relationships with the coaching staff as a big reason he committed and without those coaches still in Columbia next season, his price point could go down. If he comes to school, he's a guy who could seriously compete for a starting spot on Opening Day.
Jenkins is a guy getting a lot of attention from scouts, but scouts wanted to see more at-bats from him this year after coming off an ACL tear. There's always a chance for him to go pro, but I expect him to come to school.
Juniors I still expect to sign a deal: Clarke Schmidt, Wil Crowe, Tyler Johnson, Alex Destino, John Parke, Brandon Murray, Madison Stokes
