If he had won even one of them along the way, he would have a shot - especially for his coaching - even if a long shot. As it was, he came up short and suffered the ignominy of having his quarterback essentially fire him at Denver. Reeves preferred Shanahan and let the owner know it. I lost all respect for Elway from that time onward.
