Why do we not see bird skeletons all over the place?

I mean, there are billions, probably trillions of birds in the world and they can't live forever. Just by sheer volume you would think there would be bird skeletons all over the place. What's up with that? They have to die somewhere. Where do they go?

I see them quite often when they are hit by cars on the highway. We are not around large birds very often. Birds nest in trees and some die there in the nest and I don't climb trees. Animals eat them quickly (easy meal), when they fall out of the sky, usually in the Forest. Therefore, their bones are scattered and hard to see or recognize what type bones they are if you see them.

I'll brake for any animal anywhere to avoid hitting an animal. They have a life, just like ours.

I brake for animals, except Wolverines!

Well, I doubt birds are dropping from the sky very often. It's not like the bird eats a high cholesterol diet all its life, then has a sudden heart attack at 1000 feet. I just can't believe with the sheer volume of birds that the streets are not riddled with bird skeletons.

They're all over the place. You can always find at least a dozen sitting on the power line that goes over my parent's trailer any time of the year. And in the morning there are hundreds that hang around in the back yard waiting for torn up Sunbeam bread that my dad throws out.

if it’s safe to do so, i’ll brake or drive around. if not, i’ll feel bad a few days and ask big daddy for forgiveness. never break for large animals like a deer, if the front of your car dips down when you hit a deer, it could come straight through the windshield.

Not to mention if the headlights have them blinded the dip in the headlights can give them an exit strategy. I don’t break for deer that are not in the lane. 99% of the time they never move. Even if right beside the white line.

So does almost everyone, but do you not still see birds dead on the highway all the time? What type of person would purposely hit an animal?
Plenty of idiots out there. I saw an experiment where they put little fake turtles in the road, but outside the lines where someone would purposely have to swerve to hit them, then recorded the results. You would not believe the number of morons who intentionally swerved to run over them! I think I saw where some animal rights folks made little traps out of them- a little fake turtle with a hidden spike that would pop a tire if you ran over it..

I’ve never hit the brakes for a squirrel. I’ve also never hit a squirrel.
i’ve nailed a few, but not on purpose. i hit a bird once but it was flying, got caught under the wiper, felt so bad. i tried to get if off by turning the wipers on but it was stuck. left a big grease rainbow across the glass. still feel bad about it.

I saw that survey. Believe it or not, they did the fake turtle set up near clemson.

I love turtles, but you can be criminally prosecuted for putting spikes in roads. Much better to film it and their license plate and embarrass them later publicly.

It's because all birds are actually government spies...and they are decommissioned or repaired and put back into service later on.
When the stolen election evidence is finally revealed it will be done so by a giant bald eagle army.
Just sit back and wait and see

right next to the elephants

I guess they usually get picked up by street sweepers and clean up crews. Or eaten by cats or raccoons….

I found one in the road in front of my house. Laying there like it had just dropped out of the sky. No injuries or anything. I wrapped it in a paper towel and disposed of it in the neighbors dumpster.

what a random post!

When an animal dies their corpse decomposes. Have you ever seen the bones of the average sized bird?
Or maybe buzzards digest a lot of them.

The scientists say the population of birds has declined by 50% since 1960.
I have many bird feeders. Love the purple and yellow finches, cardinals, juncos, chickadees and red-headed woodpeckers (on the sweet gums, not the feeders). I have one hummingbird feeder that I keep loaded but I’ve never saw a hummingbird feeding at it. Have numerous concoctions. I guess that don’t like my neighborhood, or cats.

Have a couple of outside cats that kill birds, along with snakes, rats, moles, anything that moves. All they leave is the pecker (get your minds out of the gutter) and the feathers.

The very few bird skeletons I have seen were covered in ants so I assume insects also play a huge roll in the removal of the carcasses

I would say this is the way most get gone.I was walking in Walmart parking lot not long ago and saw a dead bird.looked like it was stepped on or run over.no ants of yet, didn’t look like it has been there long.when I saw it on the ground,I thought of this thread.

People with outside cats are called bad cat owners. There's no such thing as an outside domestic cat. They're an invasive species. I'll tell you what. I'll let my wolf hybrid loose to roam your neighborhood. Hey, he just likes being outside. Sorry if he ate your outside cat.
