the way they use to schedule each other? There were 3 games at quempsum and 3 games at Carolina.

Gosh, it would mean so much more money for each team, I would think.

It all started with Bill Wilhelm and the 3rd base hecklers... He hated us and canceled the series for a couple of years.. I think he made a deal to only have a thee game series, and he wanted us (3rd base hecklers) to no longer sit behind his dugout...

One year, before all of this happened... We came into the park wearing Clemson orange T-shirts and during pregame warm ups and after the 1st inning, we cheered our heads off for Clemson and heckled Carolina... It was really hard when Clemson took a lead of 2-0.

By that time, you can see June in the dugout trying not to laugh... He knew what we were up too and it also back fired on us...

With Clemson leading 2-0 going to the bottom of the 1st, we ripped our Clemson orange shirts off and started cheering for Carolina... You could see the faces in the Clemson dugout just drop... And luckly Carolina took the lead 4-2 after the 1st inning...

Just for curiousity, how many fans comprised the 3rd base hecklers? I remember reading about them in Spurs and Feathers long long before the days of the internet.

I was a member of the 3rd Base Hecklers' Club in 1980 & 1981. There was no "formal" membership, but those of us who sat there & claimed membership had shirts!! There were a goodly # of us by then. Think they started up a couple of years before I arrived...sometime in the late 70's!!

I started hanging out in the late 70's when I was in HS and when I enrolled at USC, I made sure to take early morning classes in the Spring and get a seat about 2 hours before game....

I remembered John David Spade who was the city manager at the time and Ike McLeese who passed away last year managed the Shirts. I used to give Ike a hard time for bring his daughter to the game and exposing her ears to us, until I found out, she was his wife... Oops...

Other names off top my head; Debra, Benji, Dan & Wife, Jay, Hub, Eric, John, Flynn, Robin and other the names that have faded from my memory because of old age...

Benji was great with projecting his voice like it came out of the 3rd base dugout, yelling "Time!" during the pitcher's wind up and scaring the crap out of him and causing the pitcher to stop in mid-wind up for a balk...

How about 6 games... Don't forget Lexington...

If Clemson can have Clemson and Greenville. We should have Columbia and Lexington...

I was a Third Base Heckler and I also have a memory and a USC baseball media guide. We never scheduled the taters six times in a season. In the ACC days we played clemsux twice a year like all the other ACC schools. After leaving the ACC we usually played the taters 3 times a year at random times. Starting in 1979 through our last year in the Metro we scheduled them for a pair of two-game series, home and home, every year with the exception of 1984. After we joined the SEC in '92(one year before Wilhelm retired BTW) the schedule changed back to three games between the two schools scheduled randomly throughout the season.

The current format of three games in one weekend at three different sites began in 2010. The late Bill Wilhelm had zero to
do with it.

Oh yes we did before 1984. I remembered we played a 3 game weekend series here in Columbia and there in Clemson Bill Wilhelm hated us. At one time we swept them both in Columbia and Clemson and that just pissed off Wilhelm when we brought our brooms on Sunday.

Once Carolina and Clemson started back the series again we played two games a year on a Wednesdays and later Jack took over and it moved to 4 games a year for awhile until the new 3 game series Columbia, Clemson and neutral site....

There was a six game series with them at one time, because USC beat them all 6 games one year.

Sir, I will bet you a $1,000 that USC played the taters at least one year six times. Three games at quempsum and three games at the Sarge. It may take me some time to find the record but I will indeed find the series because the reason I can remember it is because I ragged a quempsum fan about Carolina beating them six times in one year. Again, it may take me until Monday to get the facts but I will get them.

I sure do too love having to explain things to idiots as well... My memory isn't the same, but we did play six game regular season series scheduled with the Clemson...

Page 187

1985 was the one I was thinking of with a 6 game sweep... It was on April 26, 27, 28 in Columbia and May 15, 16 & 17 in Clemson

1986 6 games; 3 games April 25, 26, 27 in Clemson and 3 games May 3, 4 & 5 in Columbia

Page 188

1988 we had 5 games 3 up in Clemson and 2 in Columbia. There was supposed to be 3 games in Columbia, but we had a wash out and Wilhelm didn't want to make it up... That should have been a forfeit.

1989 6 games; 3 games March 31,April 1 & 2 in Clemson and 3 games April 20, 21 & 22 in Columbia...

Page 189

1990 6 games
1991 6 games

Thank you for providing a breakdown of the series history. I was trying to Google one.

Always trust your heckler and don't mess with Stats Jr.

I'm old, but I never forget a 3 game weekend series with Clemson with picnics and brooms on top of the 3 base dugout... We made it on the front page of the State newspaper after the sweep...

Hey coxman, I don't take American Express, Master Card or Visa, cash only. E-mail me and I will give you my address so that you can send a cashiers check.

And you might want to try and not be so insulting next time.

Hey Freddie, It was 81 Alumnus who was the one calling us idiots and he posted a link to prove us being idiots... What an idiot... It falls on the same line as stupid criminals... Calling someone an idiot and posting proof of who is the idiot around here...

He must be a lawyer... He'll find a way to make us look like idiots in the end...

Coincidently, I had found another link that proved us to be correct and was coming back to post the link, when 81 Alumnus had posted the above link.

Hey Freddie, from one idiot to another, should we let 81 Alumnus in our idiot club and vote him in as President idiot? After all, he did provide ammo for us with his link...

What idiot gets into an argument and provides the other side's case without looking at his own evidence...

I hope he comes back and man up...

God, I love having to explain things to idiots. Here's the USC media guide's listing of every game in every season in USC history. No six game regular season series scheduled with the taters ever. Breakdown of the series history exactly like I told you two it was.

Before calling someone an idiot, next time you might want to get your facts straight.

I'm ok with the current set up but I think a mid-week game to bring the total of games to 4 would be good. That game could be at a neutral site and the RH-Charlotte area needs to be included in the possible sites. Who knows, might help recruiting in the Charlotte area.

I don't think they will do Charlotte area being close to Columbia, that's why the need to move it to Charleston and Myrtle Beach. And keep it out of Greenville.

The way the Drive advertises that game and the local media it sounds like they are trying to make the Greenville game a mainstay.

Charlotte's roughly the same distance as Greenville.
Yeah, you might right... But, I just don't like having games in Clemson and Greenville...Too close together where as other fans in the Low Country may like see the two play in the Low Country area...
