No, not player safety. Nobody seriously believes that.

It’s about the economy. A great many of colleges are located in “college towns” whose local businesses grew up to support the school and student body during the school year. The money they make during the school year sustains them during the lean summer months.

For restaurants and hotels in particular, college football season is absolutely vital to their existence.

Local economies In these towns will be devastated worse than they are if they are forced to go a season without college football. Those kinds of businesses operate on a slim margin anyway, so taking away a season of revenue is crushing.

Of course, the college football season runs right up against the November elections. It’s no coincidence that the pressure is on for the season to be canceled. It’s one way to crush hundreds of local economies in one fell swoop.

So the athletic directors, university presidents and others are getting together to cancel the season in an effort to crush local economies across the country? Are they also cancelling sports in other countries to crush local economies in their country because of our elections? Is President Caslen basing his decisions because he wants to see places like Oxford, MS or Auburn die?

Or are you just on crack?

This was a story on WYFF this week. The reality is that even if football is played it will be before no or limited crowds. Let's say they let in 20k to a 90k stadium. Most likely schools will not provide tickets to the visiting teams. So the local businesses were going to get slammed anyway.

The “pressure is on” to cancel the season because idiots didn’t listen to experts. Period.
The same experts who said there's no evidence of human-to-human transmission? The same experts who said COVID-19 wasn't a concern, the flu is? The same experts who said we shouldn't wear a mask unless we're contagious? Those experts?

Yeah just like those so called experts that believe the earth is round and orbits the sun. What a bunch of dummies learning from experience and not just going with the first thought that they had.

I don’t have the answer but when a business owes its existence solely to The sports teams of a local college, it would be a good business move to diversify a bit.

that business might not be able to do that by itself but might need help from local politicians to develop some diversity.
