He throws much better as a starter. Comes out of the bullpen and can't get my grandmother out.

Check the stats. He leads the team in saves. He had a bad outting last night.

His performance as a closer is one reason he's been given chances at starting games.
I realize he leads the team with 9 saves, but look how he pitches as a starter vs coming out of the bullpen. Must be a mental thing. His whip is very high for a closer, and I don't see any stats for blown saves on USC site, but 3 losses were all in relief I do believe. He would be my Saturday starter right now. Fri night lefty throwing 87-88 with s bunch of changeups to righty on sat throwing low 90s with good breaking ball. Good pitchers can be wasted as a closer, not getting all you can get out of them with 1-3 innings a week.

He also leads the team in blown saves. He got his saves mostly early in the year against weak competition once we got to SEC play, he couldn't close. This guy doesn't have good command of his pitches and other teams know this now.

Another blown save....gggrrrrrrr. Why does Holbrook keep putting him out there. Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's my fault. I Jinxed him. I talked about how awesome having Mincey and Widener at the back of the BP was early in the year. They've been awful ever since.
