Zach Pickens gone; Why even play this bowl game

The players are now seeing that ND game as a loss and are bailing ship to not be a part of it. This is why Beamer gave that speech in the upper deck in camp. Its wild how players do this, I’ll never understand it

Seems very strange how all the top tier players are flying the coup at the same time. I would love to know the real reason for the mass migration so much for all the we are all family chatter.

Seems the former players that pushed Tanner to hire Beamer were far more excited about him being here than the current players are. Not exactly what you want to see when you hire a young energetic coach.

It's all the players that are getting ready to try their hand in the pros. (And some transfers that want to start the recruiting process.) It's not strange - it's guys looking to get a three-week head start on the rest of their lives. And time is of the essence when other draft-worthy guys are doing the same thing.

These guys will be signing with agents, starting professional speed and strength training, hiring position coaches, etc., instead of spending the next three weeks practicing for an exhibition game that has zero affect on their futures.

Planning for their future … without loyalty to the Cocks.

This is just another trend that sucks! Once upon a time being a "Gamecock for LIFE" really meant something - but now??? A LOT of people said a LONG time ago that the bowls would be meaningless to the "star" players and it appears that is totally correct. What most teams are doing is treating this as early Spring Practice with a lot more GLAMOROUS Spring Game! I don't care who plays as long as they're in a GAMECOCK uniform and give 100%! Maybe the NIL and Foundations need to structure their PAYOUTS AFTER Bowl Game performances!!

May all be true. But they cant give their team, teammates and fans 2 more weeks and one final game? Just my opinion but it all seems so selfish. The seniors who arent going pro (which is 95% of college seniors) deserve to go out as winners.

Who knows maybe we win, Notre Dame has had all their top players quit on them too for this game

Gator Bowl…. Vs. Notre Dame seems like a huge deal to me. It’s an absolute shame that lots of people, including some players, see it as an exhibition game that not worth the effort. Going in like that, yea, we will lose. It’s very disappointing.
Hats off to the ones who stay and fight to the and give 100%.

I think you should offset that some with the realization that Notre Dame has exactly the same problems. At TE they lose Berrong to the portal and Mayer to the NFL. They are bemoaning who will play TE in the game, just like SC. They will have the same motivation issues, probably worse.

They sure do. Its such a shame. This would have been a great matchup between two good teams. Now its a hodge podge scrimmage.

I’m sorry, I bought tickets and reserved hotel, Wish I had waited on that purchase. Dumbest move I’ve made this year.
We ALMOST did the same. My Dad is a USC grad, but also Catholic and likes ND, we were gonna make a weekend trip of it. We waited and so glad we did. We all agreed that its gonna be a joke of a game with both teams stars having quit

Your opening sentence explains everything.
It's a very big deal to the older fans (no slight intended), but we have all read the threads from years past, how many do not even bother to watch other minor bowls, unless the had some kind of affiliation to one of the schools, If not, then it wasn't watched.
Minor bowls are merely exhibition games, and the players know that as well. Some may not like to hear it, but it is the reality.

I agree with you mostly. Players today are pure selfishness. This ND game will have more eyes on USC than any game outside of a playoff game, simply bc ND draws such massive viewership. A win over them helps the USC brand more than anything other than an SEC championship or playoff win. But the players dont care. They dont care what happens once they take the jersey off. The new era is 100% about self over team

Not saying they dont/wont play hard when in that jersey. Just that they do so 100% with the interest of what NIL can they get and whats in it for their immediate pocket, NOT for whats best for the team. There are some isolated exceptions but not many.

Bowl games are just an exhibition but there are 80+ other kids on the team who havent transferred that this game might mean something to.

Players getting a head start in their lives doesn’t bother me in the least. Most would if given the opportunity. Keep in mind that with players sitting out others get a chance to play. Put me in the meaningless bowl category.

Guess “finish what you start” is an dumb outdated idea now

Right because they look at it as a job not a hobby like 95% of us. Getting a head start is merely a business decision.

Haha little do these kids know how good they have it and how bad it sucks to be an adult. Taxes, bills, ect Id much rather go to class, play ball, and chase girls all day.

“Finish what you start” is a valuable life lesson. All of the values held by the new generation are actually terrible for an adult life: selfishness, quitting before finishing a committment, putting self before team, etc etc; Theres not a single team or corporation in the world who would value those traits. But we as fans are applauding them?????

Trying Pro, only for some. Some of those in the portal were walk-ons. Some have a lot of college eligibility left, e.g. Corey Rucker. He has proven anything and feel sure he is not on any pro radar. Maybe they just think the grass is greener

Till you get a career ending injury and your NFL career is over. There is also a difference between applauding and understanding. You can bet your sweet ass that If the player was my son, it would be my suggestion to not risk your career for an exhibition game. It’s just not a smart business or life decision.

Who said players in the nfl are not doing the same in a bigger scale. More woman, more money, and more toys.

I'm laughing at all the folks calling these players selfish with no sense of self-awareness. You want them to care about your feel good and perception of them more than their own careers. Who's the one actually being selfish. Miss me with the "other guys in the locker nonsense. They don't care. They would all do the same thing. if they were in the same position.
