This is their fifth trip to the NCAA’s in the last 15 years. They have been the dominant team in the SOCON over that time but not been able to equal regular season success to conference tourney success.
They have a culture of winning and play generally 4-5 power five conference teams a year. This year they played
Auburn 2-2 #10 in SEC
LSU. 3-3 #12 in SEC
FSU. 0-6
FSU is the only tournament team they have played and FSU cleared the bench for the second half. In their other 18 games they only gave up 8 goals. This indicates that they are pretty well organized on D. They foul an excessive amount so it may be a rough game.
Clearly they don’t have our talent but they did put up 5 goals on two SEC teams. Fr. Taylor Yount and Kyla Reynolds are their leading scorers with 10 & 9 goals.
It appears they play a very aggressive 4-2-4 with one of the forwards acting more as a midfielder.
Todd Yelton has been their head coach for almost 20 years. He has been successful everywhere he has been. I would think with his success he would have had opportunities to leave for a larger program. Who knows? His younger brother is the #1 assistant.
