South Carolina is scheduled for a Zoom call with Oklahoma quarterback transfer Spencer Rattler tonight.

To put it simply, there seems to be some interest from Rattler in the Gamecocks, but we want to confirm that A. the Zoom takes place and B. see how it goes before we start encouraging you to get your hopes up that Rattler is a real possibility.

It is certainly worth keeping an eye on at this point, though, and something we are tracking. We're all just going to have to be patient in seeing how it plays out.

UCLA is another program we continue to hear has traction with Rattler.

** We confirmed that Shane Beamer's in-home with Austin Stogner, that we told you was scheduled for yesterday, took place and the feedback there has been positive for the Gamecocks.

Tracking the transfer guys can be even more difficult than high school prospects, as they usually play it even closer to the vest, but the belief is that the Gamecocks are firmly in this one.

There has been some Ohio State buzz as of late, and we can't really discount the Buckeyes (they're a recruiting machine), but the Gamecocks have a real shot here and that's probably the conservative way to put it.

** LSU quarterback Max Johnson is officially in the portal which means that South Carolina and other schools can now make contact.

It appears that Max and his younger brother, class of 2022 four-star TE Jake Johnson, the No. 1 tight end in the country, are essentially a package deal.

In some ways, it is still early (Max just entered the portal) but in other ways it's late (Jake is an early enrollee).

Reading the tea leaves here, I believe the Gamecocks are high on both players and I can tell you that we've been told that the Johnson family has a great deal of respect for Shane Beamer and the way he runs his program, dating back to Beamer recruiting Jake as a tight end when Beamer was at Oklahoma.

As far as we know, as of right now, there's no visit set (for either) but we're keeping an eye on it.

Florida State is the other program that seems to have generated some buzz with the two brothers.
