** It's been one of the most asked questions since the two Oklahoma transfers announced their intentions to become Gamecocks: When will Spencer Rattler enroll at South Carolina? We can tell you that, as was likely assumed, Spencer Rattler will be in Columbia to go through spring practice.

To be more specific, Rattler will start online classes at South Carolina on Jan. 10, when that semester begins, and then will physically be in Columbia on or by February 1 at the latest.

We will save the rest of the Rattler details for our Exclusive Garnet Trust Interview with Rattler which is presented by 360clean and is slated to hit our front page (and this forum) on Monday morning. We are beyond excited for you to hear from him and believe you'll be thoroughly impressed with the incoming QB.

You'll probably remember that tight end transfer Austin Stogner is still finishing up some final online classes this spring so that he can graduate from Oklahoma, but even though he won't be enrolled at South Carolina this spring, Stogner still plans to physically move to Columbia in March and will be able to go ahead and visit for spring practices and start to learn the offense.

** As expected, South Carolina has been extremely active in the transfer portal even beyond the two big-time transfers that have already announced for the Gamecocks.

To be honest, I don't think there is a position group that would be beyond needing an instant impact player if the right one wanted to come but some of the positions we are tracking the closest right now and that we believe are priorities are wide receiver, offensive line, defensive end and safety.

** As far as wide receiver recruiting in the portal goes, the Gamecocks appear to be focused on UTEP wide receiver Jacob Cowing, who has quickly become one of the most highly sought after receivers that is available.

Cowing says on his Instagram that he'll be deciding among finalists Arizona, Oregon, Florida, LSU and South Carolina on Monday.

UPDATE: At this point, I'm not projecting it to be South Carolina.

** There are, of course, some other receivers we're keeping an eye on but it doesn't appear to have progressed to the same level with these guys as it has with Cowing.

South Carolina has been in touch with Wyoming transfer Isaiah Neyor and the Gamecocks like Neyor but as of this writing have not offered yet. Right now, Southern Cal, Tennessee and Ole Miss are probably the three schools to keep an eye on with Neyor. There's interest if the Gamecocks offer though.

As of Friday night, there hadn't been much if any contact between South Carolina and Georgia State wide receiver transfer Sam Pinckney, a former Greenwood standout. We understand that Pinckney already has a number of Power 5 offers since entering the portal. The Gamecocks would be a major factor here if they decide to make a move.

While there's not enough yet to put him on the Official Transfer Portal Watch List, it simply makes sense for us to keep an eye on West Virginia wide receiver transfer Winston Wright, who hit the portal on Dec. 31.

A Savannah, Ga. native, Wright was the Mountaineers leading receiver for the last two seasons and as a junior this season he had 63 catches for 688 yards and five touchdowns while also returning a kickoff for TD.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pounder has two years of eligibility remaining.

** While we have yet to receive confirmation that there's mutual interest between the two parties, the Gamecocks will no doubt check in on Northwestern All-American safety Brandon Joseph, who entered the transfer portal last week. The 6-foot-1, 192-pounder was a consensus All-American in 2020 when he collected six interceptions. Joseph is a College Station, Tx. native.

** South Carolina four-star wide receiver signee Landon Samson will not enroll for spring practice as originally planned and now projects to enroll in June. To reiterate what I said in the original thread about this news, there's no indication that the decision means anything beyond that Samson and company just decided he wanted to finish out his high school career before enrolling.

Samson will be competing in the All-American Bowl this week with practice starting on Monday.
