*** Doty update...

South Carolina starting quarterback Luke Doty was inadvertently stepped on in practice Friday in what was just one of those freak accidents that sometimes happens in football.

While the rumors began circulating online this morning, part of the reason we did not speculate on the severity of the injury when first asked about it on the board, is that Doty was still undergoing tests.

Those tests have now come back and I can confirm that Doty has a midfoot fracture and minor ligament tears.

There is currently no timetable for a return. The reason for that is that Doty's test results will be sent to outside specialists who will review them and get back to the South Carolina staff, probably early this upcoming week.

Generally with this type of thing, there's only so much that can be known until those specialists give their opinions and also some time has passed to allow for swelling to go down. Right now, it is not believed to be a lisfranc injury, the type that kept Jake Bentley out for his entire season, and the hope is that surgery will not be needed.

So really, any timetable for a return won't be known until more is known about the injury and a protocol for return has been set.

I'm also told that Doty is in good spirits and is ready to do whatever he can do help his lead his teammates while he recovers.
