1. 7️⃣9️⃣ Countdown to kickoff: 79 days!

Our countdown to South Carolina's 2019 season opener against North Carolina in Charlotte is now down to just 79 days, meaning today’s athlete is sophomore offensive tackle Dylan Wonnum.

Wonnum was an All-SEC Freshman selection last season after taking over at right tackle midway through the year. Wonnum gave up just one sack in eight games as a starter.

2. Muschamp camp resumes Thursday

After three productive days of camp last week, the 2019 Will Muschamp Camp sessions resume Thursday for three more busy days at South Carolina.

• On both Thursday and Friday, South Carolina will host a 7-on-7 tournament along with a concurrent OL/DL camp, in what will no doubt be one of the biggest tests of the year for the South Carolina support staff, which will have to manage all of the action. Saturday's workout will be a typical one-day camp just like last week, while the Gamecocks will also host official visitors on campus.

• Each 7-on-7 tournament will feature 36 teams who will participate in pool play in the morning before fighting it out in an afternoon knockout round to determine a winner. With the number of teams involved, the Gamecocks will utilize the indoor facility, the practice fields, and the old practice fields in order to have enough space to accommodate so many games.

Carolina's 7-on-7 tournament has grown in number each of Muschamp's four years in Columbia. On Friday, they'll turn around and do it all over again with 36 new teams.

• While the 7-on-7 tournament is taking place, South Carolina will also host an OL/DL camp run by offensive line coach Eric Wolford, defensive line coach John Scott Jr. and outside linebackers/defensive ends coach Mike Peterson.

The camp, which takes place at Carolina's track facility, will allow the Carolina coaches to put a huge number of prospects through agility drills and one-on-one matchups up close and personal, while providing prospects with college coaching. It's an excellent evaluation tool for the staff.

• One of the headliners for the 7-on-7 tournament is South Carolina quarterback commit Luke Doty, whose Myrtle Beach team will participate in both Thursday and Friday's tournament. Doty, who committed to the Gamecocks last summer, threw for the Carolina coaches last Friday along with future teammate wide receiver Da'Qon Stewart. The four-star signal-caller, who has been a mainstay in Columbia since committing, will again get the chance to compete at his future home.

• Greer (S.C.) High is scheduled to participate in Thursday's 7-on-7 work as well with a duo of young Carolina targets set to lead their team.

Class of 2023 quarterback Raheim Jeter, who recently transferred in from Byrnes, camped with South Carolina last week and earned an offer from South Carolina in the process. Multiple SEC schools have now stepped in with scholarships for the rising freshman.

Jeter and class of 2022 wide receiver Jaleel Skinner will form one of the state's best tandems for years to come. The 6-foot-6, 195-pound Skinner already holds a Carolina offer as well.

As always, GamecockCentral.com will have complete in-depth coverage of South Carolina's camps this week.

That's what was in my head when I went out there, and I made it happen. (link)

4. This Date in Gamecock History

June 13, 1975 – The Gamecocks and Arizona State participated in a great CWS pitching duel, as USC's Tim Lewis and ASU's Greg Cochran matched goose eggs on the scoreboard for seven innings.

  • The Sun Devils would break through first, as they brought a run home on a triple by future Atlanta Brave Jerry Maddox.
  • Carolina went into its final at-bat facing Cochran, a starter who hadn't lost (14-0) that season.
  • Undeterred, Mark Van Bever led off the final inning with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice by Jeff Grantz.
  • Garry Hancock's single scored Van Bever, and USC then loaded the bases on a single by Hank Small and a walk to Steve King.
  • Hancock scored on an ASU error, Jim Pankovits brought another run home with a ground out and the final run scored on a squeeze bunt by Steve Cook.
  • Lewis then blanked the Sun Devils in the ninth, sending Carolina into the championship game against Texas.
