Though Goose Creek (SC) OL Brandon Shell doesn't say a ton in public, I'm hearing that he's had very positive things to say about South Carolina's chances to several of those close to him. As has been documented here, South Carolina and Georgia are the main players for Shell but I've talked to some that are plugged into that situation that say that USC clearly has the best shot to ultimately land him right now. That's certainly not to say that it's a done deal that he will end up in Columbia, because it's not, but South Carolina is sitting in good position right now.

One of USC's early offers in the 2012 class was Charlotte (NC) Ardrey Kell OL Nick Davidson. The talented lineman, who already has five verbals to his credit, was in Columbia for camp this summer. Right now, the team that has Davidson's interest the most is actually Stanford. Like I've mentioned before, Ohio State is always going to be a team to watch for Davidson (his father played there). I have heard that USC is hoping to get him on campus for a game this season.

I've mentioned several times that Arkansas is the team to beat for Orlando (FL) Dr. Phillips defender Laquentin Smith, and I still believe that to be the case. I did catch up with Smith to see if anything has changed, and he told me that USC was still on his list, but I believe the Razorbacks and USF to be ahead of the Gamecocks still. He's not planning on taking any more visits before he decides (maybe on his birthday in September), which means he's probably heading elsewhere.
