Recruiting Tidbits

Carolina has thrown their hat in the ring with two more players in the Greensboro (N.C.) area. One is Gabe King, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end and Rivals100 member from Page High School. The second is Chris McCain, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound outside linebacker prospect and Rivals250 member from Northern Guilford. Assistant coaches Brad Lawing and Jeep Hunter are “double-teaming” these prospects and hope to get them on campus soon for a visit.

Speaking of Hunter, he will now recruit the Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in Florida, and Jay Graham is going to take over the Panhandle area of the Sunshine State. This is the opposite from how things were initially divided.

San Marcos (Calif.) Palomar C.C. offensive lineman and Pa. native Brice Schwab is expected to visit Carolina this summer. I still hear he has a strong interest in returning to the east coast, which bodes well for the Gamecocks.

Team Tidbits

Cornerback C.C. Whitlock is on thin ice at this point and has been given an ultimatum by the coaches ? “Shape up or ship out.” How he responds will dictate his immediate future as a Gamecock.

Carolina is already extremely thin at the cornerback position and Whitlock’s departure would really cripple them even further. In yesterday’s practice, Addison Williams and Cedrick Snead were the second team corners. The lack of depth there and at defensive tackle are both going to be big obstacles for the coaches to overcome this season.

Tony Straughter is now working at WILL linebacker. He began spring drills as a Spur.
