Beamer will meet with the media via Zoom at 11:30 a.m. today to talk about the Duke's Mayo Bowl. Updates will be in this post.

--Players in exams this week and coaches are out recruiting. Will get back this weekend for official visits then graduation Monday.

--They'll get nine practices in during the time in Columbia. They'll break Dec. 22 and reconvene Christmas night in Charlotte then "get to work."

--Really thankful players get a chance to end this year in a bowl game against North Carolina. Mentions he and Mack Brown know each other well. Frank Beamer played Brown's team his first year at Virginia Tech and he's doing the same this year. Testament to how good of a coach Brown is and it's a "big challenge."

--Asked about early signing period and the portal, said he trusts the decision makers but there are a few unintended consequences. Mentions he's a fan of the early signing period. It's a grind for coaches who play in conference championship games but good for guys who want to go ahead and get it done and sign. He's a fan of it and most prospects are as well.

--Mentions Mack Brown and his wife are two of his dad's closest friends in the industry. His mom spent some time in North Carolina in Greensboro and had a little bit of a fandom for UNC basketball and would go to some games. Brown's been "good to me and my family." Brown was one of the first people to call the Beamer family when Shane took the job.

--Said "it's not definite" Z. White is out for the bowl game. Was just talking with him. Certainly some guys have decisions to make in terms of the NFL or the transfer portal. He's meeting with guys and talking with them. They want what's best for them and their future. Said it's not 100 percent White won't play in the bowl.

--Said in terms of balancing staff continuity and maybe opting to make staff changes, said it's his job to do what's best for South Carolina and the program. Mentions he's constantly evaluating that. He's spent a lot of time recently thinking about that during his travels. To him, the season's still going on. As they go through December and January they'll continue to evaluate things.

--Bowls are what make college football special and he's a "bowl guy." His dad told him growing up there's no bad bowl. Said there are so many fantastic things about bowl games.

--They have a lot of respect for UNC as a program and it's something fans in North Carolina and South Carolina put stock into. To do it in Charlotte is big too given the proximity. It's really exciting and they "couldn't be more fired up."

--They're going to try and bring some young guys along during bowl prep but the main goal is to get the team ready to play against North Carolina. It's a long layoff so they have to make sure they're sharp. The priority is to "get the 2021 football team ready to go win a football game." Of the nine Columbia practices, half will be spent introducing North Carolina but will spend time getting young guys ready as well.

--Think winning the game in Charlotte could be a great statement for this program in year one. This was a team in the Orange Bowl last year. To win a game like this would be a nice statement but hopes some of the program building they did earlier in the year during the regular season will help with that. Winning the last game of the year certainly is a mood booster going into winter workouts and spring ball.

That's a wrap.
