Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer will meet with the media starting at 1 p.m. Practice No. 3 was today. Should be a good time.

Updates

--Congratulating all the guys that competed in pro day. Said it was incredibly well-attended and the guys who competed said they felt a good energy and vibe and welcoming energy in the building.

--Tweaking the spring practice schedule a little. The two practice days next week will be walk-through days. Said it gives the guys a chance to be healthy and give them a few extra days for rehab and a chance for the coaches to get their feet under them and evaluate the first few days of practice. Just some minor tweaks. All the scrimmages and spring game days are all the same.

--Biggest thing is getting guys to be able to sustain for multiple hours and for a game.

--Asked about his philosophy about playing running backs, said they know one guy can't handle every single snap but said he doesn't have a preference on how many in the rotation. Certain guys will have certain packages and different ways to feature their skill sets but said it'll be by committee at first and then they'll run with the hot hand.

--Physicality was good but not where it needed to be. Energy was good but it's about knocking off the rust a little bit. Some guys showed up and showed out. Said the defensive line and edge guys were really good. Mentioned they were trying to emphasize physicality to the recievers and DBs and they got after it. Jordan Burch showed up and did some good things from a physical standpoint in special teams drills.

--Having a very large turnout at pro day can only help in recruiting.

--Jason Brown practice today. No long-term injuries right now. Jakai Moore has a turf toe issue they're trying to clean up and he might be out a while. Didn't specify how long. Said they're thin defensively right now.

--Quarterback competition is going well. Guys have flashed in a very, very limited sample size. Jason Brown is working hard to get caught up coming from FCS to SEC football from a mental and physical standpoint. He's been good so far.

--Jalen Brooks and OrTre Smith have been good so far through practice. EJ Jenkins is working at tight end a little right now as the coaching staff figures out how to best properly use him.

--Said Luke Doty carries himself like a senior and has the leadership qualities to where guys look to him. He's a good athlete who runs and throws well so far in practice.

--The focus right now is about slowly installing schemes but right now it's about getting better from a fundamental standpoint and instilling how the new staff wants to practice. Said South Carolina is in a pretty similar place to where other teams have been three practices in at other places he went to.

--He likes guys who play multiple sports in high schools. Skill sets in different sports translate to football and developing competitive skills as well and intrinsic values. He's "all for it." The more a guy can do the better in high school.

--Asked about being a head coach on the practice field for the first time said it's a thrill for him. It's exactly what he expected and doesn't take that opportunity for granted.

--Said the biggest things he wants to see get better are the physicality and extra gear guys have to play at.

--Said Derrick Moore has been phenomenal building a relationship with the players. He's in drills and encouraging guys during practices. Jokes that Moore is never in his office cause he wants to build a relationship with players.

--Luke Doty is handling the bulk of first team reps. Guys are going to get opportunities but have to earn first team reps. Marcus Satterfield is handling that quarterback rotation.

--Really excited to have a spring game with fans involved. Said they bring an energy for players and can't wait to see fans there and hopefully more as the season gets going in August/September.

--Said he wants players to have fun and enjoy this process. It's tough work and players know that but want to build a good camaraderie with players to make it a place guys want to play.

--Haven't done much in terms of punt return or kick return scheme and won't until likely training camp. They'll give guys chances all spring to see who can do it. Almost all of the assistants are involved in special teams. Montario Hardesty and Justin Stepp are two guys working hands-on with the returners.
