Me and some friends are looking at making the trip from Charlotte to New Orleans for the weekend and making the Saturday trip to Baton Rouge. Wanted to see if the people that have made the road game trip to LSU had any tips, suggestions, etc. Already booked a Wyndham on Barrone for the weekend.

When we went through Mississippi to go to New Orleans that was the most boring ride of my life. We stopped in Biloxi and toured the casinos to take the edge off and I do not know if they have been re-built or not after the hurricane. If they have been re-built it's worth the stop.

Heading out from New Orleans towards Red Stick, make sure to gas up. After leaving the city, there is no exit until after Lake Pontchartrain, maybe 20-25 miles, as I recall. The stadium is close to the river, with relatively convenient parking. However, getting back to the interstate after the game is sslloooww going. Once on the interstate not too bad. If you are hanging around B. R. on Saturday, check ahead for where you want to be, a lot of the downtown area is run down and rough. Most of the nicer areas and restaurants were in suburbs off the interstates. I did not wander onto the campus, which is opposite side from river and parking, and there may be bars and restaurants nearby. Campus looks good from stadium upper deck.

Lots of out dated info here. Biloxi and Gulfport have taken quite awhile to re build, but have done so and are doing so big time. If you want to see some smaller towns with a lot of character hit Bay St Louis and or Long Beach, Ms..There are multiple casinos around, great seafood and If you fish, it's the best in the world and the charters are affordable. As far as BR goes no doubt, the traffic sucks out loud. Because of the old, outdated elevated roads with single lane exit ramps. The campus is ultra nice, but like Columbia there are some sketchy hoods nearby. Downtown has gotten nicer, and revitalized since the two years my son has been in school. I'll probably go down for the week, and fish, gamble, eat, drink and enjoy the game...cheers.

The best thing in New Orleans is the National World War 2 Museum, formerly the National D-Day Museum. See it.

And in Baton Rouge, see if you can find that drunk guy that gets right in your face yelling "Tiger bait! Tiger bait! Tiger bait!" I'm pretty sure he's still there.

I have been to a pretty good number of cities in a number of countries, and New Orleans is the second worst. It's just dirty.

I got pretty sick of "Tiger bait" too.

Biloxi is a decent stop if you like to gamble and eat seafood. It is clearly still in rebuild mode, but if you like to eat and gamble it’s sufficient.

If you like to drink and people watch go to New Orleans. I did it to say I did it but honestly it’s not a place I would go to again unless we ever end up in the Sugar Bowl. When you’re walking down the street it’s a mixture of beer, piss and puke.
