South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley met with the media today and had the following to say...

** Feel like I've grown this season. Feel like the biggest difference is being able to respond the right way to adversity

** Happy for McClendon and Werner to get raises, it's big for their family. Wanted Werner to stay when the Ole Miss stuff came out. Looking forward to having the bowl practices with him and to continuing to learn under McClendon.

** Submitted the NFL papers just to see what they'd say, but really just focused on what we have going on here.

** Virginia defense is very good and they have a unique scheme. They're very good defensively and it will be a challenge.

** Chandler Farrell and Hank Manos have both looked good at center in practice with Donell Stanley filling in at guard for Zack Bailey.

** The first day of practice it was strange to not have Deebo out there and missed that piece, but all the guys have responded well. Josh Vann has stepped up and is playing more. K.C. Crosby and Kiel Pollard have played more slot reps with Shi Smith playing more outside. Don't see any dropoff.

** Ryan Hilinski is a great kid. He's going to help out a lot and he's very eager to run. Very excited to get him here and teach him all I can about ball. I think it's a great class full of a lot of players that love football.

** Really amazed by Parker White. Was able to learn from him about how he wasn't fazed by negativity last year. Have a ton of confidence in him.

** A lot of excitement about the new football ops building and you can feel it when people talk about it. It's a lot better setup and easier access just to talk to the coaches with their offices right by the meeting rooms and its connected to the field. Won't have to cross the street and stop traffic just to go to practice. Looking forward to it.

** Chandler Farrell and Hank Manos are taking reps at center. Manos took first team reps Thursday during practice with the first team offensive line looking like this (right to left): Dylan Wonnum, Donell Stanley, Hank Manos, Sadarius Hutcherson, Dennis Daley.

** Both Bryan Edwards and Jake Bentley said they submitted paperwork for the NFL to get their draft grades. Bentley said a lot of juniors did just to see how they graded out by scouts. Edwards pointed out he’ll make a decision after the bowl game and getting his grade.

** Edwards and Shi Smith said they support Deebo Samuel’s decision to sit out the bowl game. Edwards said he somewhat expected it and understands completely why he did. Also was incredibly complimentary of what Samuel’s done for the team and university.

** Right now it’s a pretty heavy and frequent rotation at receiver with Samuel not playing. Edwards said he, Smith, Chavis Dawkins and Josh Vann have been working outside and inside spots and doing a lot of different things offensively.

** Michael Scarnecchia says the team seems fired up and pumped up for the Belk Bowl. There's no worry about the team not being excited for a bowl.

** Scarnecchia says his coaches and Steve Spurrier have encouraged him to still go through the pro day at school and see if any NFL teams are interested. If that doesn't work out, he plans to go to law school and is looking at USC, UNC or Wake Forest.

** Bryson Allen-Williams says he never gave any thought to sitting out the bowl. He didn't want to end his career on an injury's term, wanted to end his career on his own terms. Been through a lot here, injuries, coaching change, scheme changes, but wouldn't trade it in for anything. Looking forward to one last game.

** A.J. Turner says he's been primarily working at defensive back in practice but is going to play running back too. The staff has talked about Turner playing both running back and defensive back next year.
