Our Coaches

Ummmm...okay. I would argue that coaching great players is a little easier than coaching so-so players. Would Kirby Smart win back to back national titles here? I sincerely doubt it. Recruiting is not deemphasized, the way in which it occurs has changed for sure.

Yep. That's why the 2010 SEC Championship was won by Gene Chizik and not Steve Spurrier. And how Dumbo has 2 National Championships.

I'd always take a decent coach with elite talent over an elite coach with decent talent. You can't coach fast, big and strong. Better athletes can often bail out average coaching.

100%. People are just in denial about this. We are in the bottom 3rd of NIL in the SEC. That's our competition.

And people are in denial that our NIL is ranked higher than UK and Missouri as well.

No one is claiming we need to compare ourselves with the elites. But start with the teams we outspend. Then maybe move to middle of the pack, where the difference isn't so great.

But we have our new excuse. No loss will be too great now that we can just repeat #10 NIL ad nauseum.

If UK is a benchmark, look how long they hung onto Stoops in order for them to get on track. UK didn't have a good season under him until Year 6.

Is that the recipe for South Carolina and lower tier schools? Beamer still has Muschamp players on his roster. Are we cutting coaches too soon? That's been Ray's main argument. I'm not sure Carolina fans have the patience to endure.

Interesting thought. Looking at his record, he improved every year (or stayed even) until year 5 or 6. I'm not sure this staff will be able to duplicate that.

Surely we have the ability to judge a trend before 6 years, right? Should we have kept Muschamp, because he didn't get 6 years? (Obviously not)

I agree it will take time, but I also believe it will take time for the right coach. I think we can judge the trend before then, and I don't think 4 or even 5 year's qualifies as a revolving door.

The article i found said it is 65% of his guaranteed salary. But it did not give a break down of that vs salary from outside sources.

(The old deal was 1.1M guaranteed vs 1.6M from other sources)

Leave it to Tanner to do stupid sh*t like throwing our money away on buyouts for unproven coaches. Muschamp comes to mind

Difference is they are a basketball school, we are not, so we have to hang our hats on football, women's basketball, and once upon a time baseball
