South Carolina AD Ray Tanner still confident in Will Muschamp

Pretty much true. And whoever was hired was going to get at least 5 years to turn it around. Stated that before Muschamp was hired and still believe it.

And that approach seems logical. However, you can't just put your head in the sand and hope everything is kosher when you pull it out in Year 5.

IMO, even though the offense continues to be putrid and is painful to watch, the biggest concern is defense. It's been stated ad nauseam, but he came in as a defensive specialist. He knows what a good defense resembles, how to tackle, etc.

As P&C's David Cloninger pointed out this week, our tackling is atrocious and skills that should have learned in middle school are not being implemented. Last year we did have significant injuries on that side, but they occurred in the 2nd half of the season. We had UGA at home at full mast (minus Wonnum) and got our doors blown off defensively. Injuries or no injuries, if a player is in position to make a tackle, it should happen the vast majority of the time.

Additionally, don't believe it can be ruled out that Muschamp wants out. Maybe he doesn't like the long hours, responsibilities, Columbia, etc. His reputation as a head coach might not mean that much to him at this point and he's got a long way just to get back to neutral. He's amassed multi-generational wealth and will always be known as a good Defensive Coordinator {even though it could be argued he mostly rode M. Brown and Nick Saban coat tails in that endeavor as well.} He might want that buyout more than anyone.

Very astute observation.

He probably looks at the buyout with great longing and wants out. In finance these are called perverse incentives, The AD set up a perverse incentive where the buyout encourages the very behavior that you want to avoid. Muschamp likely wants out bad!

Well Ray is confident in something...that is as reassuring as a used car salemans handshake.

I got news for Ray...the overwhelming minority is he and whoever he talks to...cause I do not know a single fan that thinks things are going to work out well with him or Muschamp.
They only care about the big donors. Unfortunately for Ray, they're not happy either.

What a coincidence. I have the same level of confidence in both Muschamp and Tanner as I did the days they were hired as well and so far they are living up to expectation.
