Clearly, Lake had some ongoing issues which revolved around his actions with players and recent comments about other schools. But, 13 games is quick, and if mediocre coaches open a door to take action, schools are more than willing to cut ties, even with the payout. Some discussion of Chip Kelly escaping UCLA for that job. If that happens, the two big socal programs would be in Flux then.

I don't know why any coach would want the head coaching job at SoCal or UCLA, other than for the paycheck.

The immediate future of recruiting might be bright there. Much like the NFL model, NIL has made major market located schools more valuable to any top flight recruit looking for large sponsors. You can’t get much of a bigger market than Los Angeles. Just ask Reggie Bush.
