This is the time of year when those that were super optimistic come back to reality and an opportunity for the trolls to pounce. We won 2 games last year. We just didn't suddenly get good. We pulled out a game we could have easily lost. That is a good thing. It was a chance for this young team to get confidence that they could pull out a game when things weren't going well. It was a win and it counts.
Pre-season is over. Now we start our SEC schedule. It's not going to be easy. We were picked by the 'experts' to be one of the worst teams in the SEC. We won 2 games last year and 3 the year before. We aren't a good football team right now. If you thought that was going to change over the course of 8 months I have no idea what you were smoking but it was some good stuff.
We have already won two games equaling the total from last year but don't forget we didn't play any of these cream puffs last year. It was an all SEC schedule. I don't see any team that we will be favored to win against other than Vandy. That doesn't mean the coaches suck, or they can't coach etc. It means that Beamer is going to need some time to recruit and bring in some talent. We appear to have a solid defense but we can't erase 4 years of a horrific offence in a few months and one recruiting class. There is a reason South Carolina hasn't been winning games over the last few years. It wasn't just gameday coaching. It was talent evaluation, injuries, depth, recruiting etc. That doesn't just disappear in one year.
We will be fine. It's just going to take some time. Chill. We should be better when Doty is healthy but the season is going to be a struggle. We can hopefully win 4 maybe 5 games. If we improve significantly and get some good calls, a few lucky bounces and a few teams have some bad days we might make a bowl. That would be a significant improvement. Appreciate that if it comes. If you want things to improve this team needs positivity in the fan base to make things better. Don't self destruct. Realize this is a journey that is going to take some time. At times it's going to look ugly. We will get there.
