In your opinion, what was the most talented Gamecock baseball team (s) ever? It does not have to be one of the teams that won the NC.

I have always thought the Killer Bees were certainly one of the most talented. I can't remember the year of the Killer Bees but I think they played in the early part of 2000s.

Killer Bs were 2000, the 56-10 team that lost in the Super to ULL.

They are up there in my book based on the pitching alone, but I still think the years of Havens, Smoak, Darnell, etc had more talent top to bottom. But you have to have that magical mix of talent and that certain intagible to make it all work and obtain the ultimate prize. We had that in 2010 and 2011.

2010 & 2011 = Catching Lightning In a Bottle

Will be the Gold Standard until further notice

I would agree with you 100% about the necessary mixture of talent and chemistry. And I would add one other element to the equation and that is leadership which I think Kyle Enders brough to the team in 2010 (I can't remember if he played in 2011 or not).

When did Havens, Smoak, Darnell play? I remember them as players but can't remember the years they played. My memory is not what it use to be and it was never good to begin with. LOL!

And you are correct but were they the most talented teams? Just trying to get some discussion going.

The 2004 team probably had the most overall talent.

I know some will say that the teams with Smoak, Havens, Disher, and Darnell had the most, but that was just part of the team. The reason they never made it to Omaha was a lack of talent in the outfield and bullpen.

The 2004 team had great talent at every position. They were scary good. They just ran into a buzzsaw with Jason Windsor from Fullerton.

Who were some of the players on the 2004 team?

The 1975 team was pretty good. They went 51-6-1 and finished 2nd to Texas in the CWS. Bobby Richardson was the coach and it was the first time we went to the CWS. Power hitting Hank Small was at 1b, Jeff Grantz was at ss and Earl Bass was the ace pitcher. I was in school then and remember Earl Bass shutting down the opposition and the girls at the games dressed in halter tops and short-shorts. Ah, the memories of youth.

There was one (1) team and I can't remember the year. But, that team consisted of at least two (2) #1 recruiting classes, maybe three (3) but didn't win the ultimate prize. And to USCBatgirl21's original point it takes that unusual mixture of talent and the intangibles. Regardless, of how much talent is on a team, in baseball anyway, talent alone will not win championships.

Some of the top hitters were Steve Pearce, Landon Powell, Michael Campbell and Steven Tolleson.
Pitchers included Matt Campbell, Aaron Rawl, maybe Chad Blackwell? I'm sure I left out a bunch of other good players.

Thank you sir, it's all coming back to me now. For some reason I get confused easily when it comes to Gamecock baseball players relative to the years they played. Maybe, it's because I don't get to many of those games. But, gosh I remember those players and how good they were but I just can't associate them with a particular year. That's the fun part about getting older. LOL!

Havens, Smoak, Darnell were the final years at The Sarge 2006-2008. Havens hit the walkoff HR to win the final game at The Sarge. We had the talent then, but not the intangible factor.
Gosh, now that is a great piece of triva that I will have to use on my friends.

Thanks very much. That is a piece of information that is fun to read and I am going to save it for future references. It's great reliving some of those glory years in baseball.
