Yet, all the naysayers said it couldn't be done. Even our greatest minds who post here said Marshall and a team from the MVC could never win in the NCAAT. After all how could a coach and team full of 2 and 3 stars beat teams from the big conferences? Yet, Gregg and his boys won another conference title and just won another first round game.

so what...lots of teams hold that lead...especially ones that have won an ncaa tournament game

Kudos to Coach Marshall (yet again). One of the best minds in college basketball over the last 15-20 years. Lucky to have had him in Rock Hill for 9 seasons, and wish we could have landed him in Columbia. The man wins basketball games.

Congratulations on beating an Indiana team that you were favored to beat. The number of man-crushes on this board is amazing.

Some of you really need to get off Marshall's jock. He is'nt coming here so get over it and move on.

Darn those South Carolinians for taking pride in one of our own. Damn those Winthrop alumni who met and witnessed Gregg take their program to heights unthinkable. Hell Winthrop has more NCAAT sucess than USC in the last 70 years.

WOW ! 3 ranked teams . Tough schedule .
Wanna know what's amusing? The MVC and SEC have the same number of teams in the NCAAT second round.

Gregg has nearly as many wins against the SEC as your boy Frank Martin, Pepsi.

Then again, my favorite quote is that you said Gregg and a MVC team could never be successful.

You've been so wrong about Marshall, I'm surprised you show up in these threads.

We only played 3 ranked teams (Kentucky, Arky, Iowa State) as well. We lost 12 games to unranked teams. The sad part is that's considered progress.

I wish you guys stop sniffing his jock . He is never coming to USC . Get over it.

Typical Pepsi. Provide you with facts and you deflect. Many USC and GM pretty much know GM won't come here now. He's proven he's one of the best coaches in the NCAA and if he moves on to a larger school it will be one rich in basketball tradition.

Sadly, you'll never admit that he's a great coach. Then you'd have to admit you were wrong and swallow your pride.

Look, when he was up for the job last time I thought he'd be a great hire but he didn't get hired so as far as I'm concerned it's over. I could care less what he accomplishes at Witchita St! If you want to talk about Wishata St. there are plenty of non-USC boards to do it on! Y'all act like a bunch of old women harping over something that happened years ago. Get over it already! How'd we get all you grandmothers on this board anyway?

Well since you've probably never been right about anything, you probably don't get how good it feels to say "I told you so." In the case of Marshall, the the ones who supported it were 100% correct, those who opposed him 100% wrong. Now go stand in the corner and hang your head in shame.

Haha I remember Pepsi calling for Drew as well. It's pretty comical that the only thing all of the Marshall haters have left is 'stop sniffing his jock' or 'get over it he isn't coming here'. As a Winthrop alum I root for Gregg Marshall and wish he had come here. Sometimes you have to just swallow your pride and admit when you're wrong, you're wrong.

Do you guys have a clue how bad Baylor basketball program was before Drew was hired ? I actually like Frank Martin . I hope Frank Martin is here for a long time. But you don't see me starting a freakin thread every time Baylor wins like the 5 Gregg Marshall trolls do FGF . lol

I still don't understand why all the Marshall hate or why Hyman didn't or wouldn't interview him.

Marshall should have been hired. He is a great coach, hot headed at times ( not as bad as Martin) but gets the most out if his players. I too was fortunate to see him win at Winthrop and wish him the best. However we missed our shot at him. So let's start figuring out the next best hire. Martin is not getting it done, period! USC has to realize that soon. If he doesn't get this team to NCAA tournament next year, they have to cut ties. My goodness 68 teams make the NCAA, is that too much to ask?

A slobbering love fest for a successful coach that lived and coached college basketball at one time in SC, who currently

coaches another team in another state. Its really pathetic it continues on this site.

What's funny is that grown men who said he would never win big are too afraid to man up and admit that they were completely wrong. That's why these posts come up, to rub it in their face.

It is. He should have been our coach but our fans and administration were too stubborn to hire one of the best coaches in the country.

Instead of watching the Gamecocks in the NCAA tourney all we have to cheer for is a South Carolinian and Gamecock fan win (have perfect seasons, go to the final 4 etc) while we sit at home for yet another year.

Meanwhile those that were too stupid to hire him tell us how much better Odom, Horn and Martin are then Marshall.

All the Marshall haters won't be returning to this thread. They were banking on a loss so they could grasp onto something. But once again Marshall proved himself on the big stage against the instate power.

They will still say things like "he's not coming here...get over it." However, it's pretty much impossible for anyone to claim he's not an outstanding coach. Charles Barkley just called Marshall "one of the best coaches in the country."

They have nothing else to say. They can't use their old standbys from years ago. Being AP and Naismith COY was just a fluke to them.

So our womens team is kicking total ass right now and about to advance to the sweet 16 and yall are still blowing a nut over a coach who coaches for another team? SMGDH. Pathetic.

I think 1-2 versus ranked teams is wrong...
They beat N.Iowa by 14 at home, and they were ranked in the top 15. They beat Kansas by 13 yesterday. What am I missing here? I'm pretty sure Kansas is ranked. If they are not then maybe I'm wrong.

Our only shot at hiring him was when we hired Horn. We had no realistic shot at hiring him when Horn was fired. The BOT would not pay the money his agent was looking for to come here. You can blame Hyman for the first miss but not the second time when FM was hired.

You know, it is pretty sad and pathetic when one portion of a fan base gets all happy and boastful in proving another portion of the SAME fan base wrong. I though we. pretty much all, were Gamecock fans!
Greg Marshall, without question, is a very good coach. We, probably, missed out on a great hire. But....we can't undo that now. Marshall is NOT here, Martin is. I will question the fandom of someone who calls Martin "your coach". Martin is our coach, that is if you are a Gamecock fan. His program IS improving. NO ONE on this board knows if he will end up successful here or not, YET.
Instead of acting like little children and throwing things in each other's faces, why don't we try something new and that is to actually get behind who we do have coaching and let's see what might happen!!

Not true. You can always fix a screw up. We could hire him now. It will just cost us a lot of money.
Marshall could have been hired rather than giving Odom two extra years. He could have been hired before Horn. He could have been hired instead on giving Horn the extra year. He could have been hired instead of FM. and he could be hired now.

Marshall wanted 2 million per year for 7 years. Instead we gave an inferior coaches Horn 1.7 million per year (after buyout) and Martin 1.75 million per year.

So we have demonstrated we are willing to pay 1.7 million per year for a combined record of 105-117 over the past 7 years. Or an average of 15 - 17 per year.

We could have paid two million and be in the sweet 16 every year.

It isn't a matter of money... it is a matter of stupidity and pride.
