Any news on likely on-field coaches for the new staff?

Illinois fired Lovie Smith whom some consider an excellent defensive coach. Looks like several schools will be hiring new staffs. Anxious to see Coach Beamer's staff.

Patience.. once HBC Beamer is done coaching Oklahoma's tight ends for the season, he will get right to work on figuring this stuff out.
I wouldn't think Smith would even be a possibility. He hardly needs the money. And I don't see him being a DC at the college level. Maybe the NFL if he still wants to coach. Mason would be a good choice, but better write the check quickly. A decent amount of openings already in a year where most thought everyone would get a pass.
No noise but not surprising since most coaches are still working. My guess is Beamer is talking to his top targets to assess their interest and nothing more at this point. I would love to have Derek Mason as DC! I know people don’t love Charlie Strong but he could be an excellent choice if he wants to be a DC and be done with the HC drama.

Captain is going to teach the DBs how to grab their hamstrings when they are burnt on a pass play.
I have no issue with Mason. But you can keep Charlie Strong. Had enough of seeing folks split a 2 deep zone on 3rd and 18 too many times the last time he was here.
