Oh yeah, excellent doc. They were wild ones! Great story about opening for the Who and writing Sweet Home Alabama. Yep, I believe they played Spartanburg more than a few times for that reason.

Have not watched it yet, but plan to.

There is alot of really good musicians that came out of the Spartanburg area, and still a good many live there or close by. I am friends and formerly did business with the road manager for many years for Marshall Tucker. Have heard lots of great stories over the years.

Great documentary. Lots of sad.
With Steve Gaines, their best records were waiting to be made.
"Simple Man"....what a great song.

Man that kid was a BEAST . He is one of the most underrated guitarist of all time . He was so innovative and his playing was way different than Allen and Gary . I believe you are 100% correct . His best stuff was yet to come .

Drummer behind bars for sex offender list offence
A former drummer for US rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd was jailed on charges that he failed to properly register as a sex offender, authorities said.

A former drummer for US rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd was jailed on charges that he failed to properly register as a sex offender, authorities said.

Artimus Pyle was held in Florida on $10,000 bail.

The 59-year-old, whose real name is Thomas Delmer Pyle, pleaded guilty in 1993 in Duval County to charges of attempted capital sexual battery by an adult on a victim younger than 12 and principal to lewd and lascivious on a child younger than 16.

He was sentenced to eight years of probation and designated as a sex offender.

He was arrested in 1992 after two girls, four- and eight-year-old sisters told investigators Pyle had sex with them.

Pyle renewed his driver’s licence last month, authorities said. Because he is required to register as a sex offender in Florida, the records were automatically forwarded to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement sex offender database.

Detectives attempted to verify Pyle’s address and discovered he had not lived there for many years. It was also determined Pyle had not registered since 2001.

Authorities found Pyle had moved to Asheville, North Carolina. Authorities said Pyle told them that he lived in Florida.

Pyle told The Florida Times Union newspaper that when he renewed his licence in Florida, he gave the address of a rental home.

He said he has not lived there for about five years but had plans to move back.

He was told to register as a sex offender in his current state of residency, but he has since failed to change his address and register in person as required by Florida law, the sheriff’s office said.

“Of course I’m registered in the state of Florida where the incident happened,” Pyle told the newspaper. “I just think they (the police) got it wrong.”

Pyle was arrested on Monday when he went to the sheriff’s office to speak with detectives.

According to the Lynyrd Skynyrd’s website, Pyle joined the band in 1975 and left in 1992.

I did not know that, obviously why he left the band! How do you not receive jail time for that offense!

Artimus Pyle was a pedophile.
That charge was brought against Artimus by a vengeful ex wife and has since been refuted by his daughters. It was a tactic to try and ruin him and take everything he had. He did plead guilty, mainly because there was no way he was going to beat the charge at that time, and to save his kids from all the negativity and publicity. There is a legit website called Skynyrd Frynds that has bios and discussion about all the Skynyrd band members - a great deal of the info comes from Jacksonville and music industry people who actually knew them. It's pretty common knowledge that Artimis got set up.

I've seen both of these. Haven't watched the Skynyrd one yet but have it queued up.

Anybody have any other good music documentary recs, particularly on Netflix? I've seen "Echoes From The Canyon" about Laurel Canyon in the 60s (Byrds, Neil Young, Tom Petty, etc.) "This Is Pop" and "Hip Hop Evolution" are both multi-parters, very good if you're into those styles of music.

This one's Hulu, but the three-parter with Rick Rubin and Paul McCartney is really good. They go back through the old albums and Paul points out stuff.

I guess that’s what I never heard about that!

Clapton’s Life in 12 bars and the Allman Bros. After the Crash and Song of the South are really good ones. They play a lot of these on AXS channel, they’re always worth the watch if you like the artist or band!

I have read Clapton's autobiography and the "Midnight Riders" biography of Allman Bros. Haven't seen the docs though. I enjoy both the music books and movies; you get a different experience from each.

I'm over here in cord cut world so no AXS TV. I've got Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon, HBO

That is not a charge you don't fight. My understanding is that he had other incidences other than these.

I agree. I knew a guy who plead guilty to it to get his sentence reduced from 40 to 20 years. He and his wife still maintained that he was innocent afterward. She still lives here. C'mon man! You don't do take a plea deal for 20 years for some BS.

Something in the Water is pretty good, music that came out of the St Louis area in the 70s.

I’ve always been blown away by how tight their playing was, especially the triple guitar attack. A lot of those classic licks seem simple but have such a unique groove.

Great point, some great guitar work from them. Check out The Outlaws Hurry Sundown album, some unbelievable dual leads on that album.
