Anybody else think these slow starts

I've already figured it out, whichever way it falls. People are running scared because this thing is getting real. They are girding themselves.
Winning is supposed to be fun, but the more you win the more pressure there is to keep winning, especially being undefeated. Now that they've made it back to the final 4, a loss at this point would be devastating unfortunately.

Maryland had a great game plan, but they didn't have the depth to execute it for the win! That was a pretty good defense sans the no calls, I was thinking they would be the better team of the OSU/VT game. It amazes me how the drive and the hook with the free arm doesn't get called much in the women's game.

Maryland played really physical and bloodied our noses in the 1st quarter. I think that woke us up a bit and we took control of the rest of the game. I think that helps us stay focused going into the final four.

It would be the athletic equivalent of Hiroshima.

It's the Final Four.

Anything can happen. All these teams are very good with great players.

It would be very disappointing, but it's foolish to set anyone up to be a total failure unless they win the national title.

Thankfully, most people won't view it that way.

Agreed. The 2017 tournament is a perfect example of the best team (UConn that year) looking ahead and getting upset before the title game.

I counted 3 blatant elbows thrown by Maryland on offense in the first quarter alone and no offensive fouls called. It was ridiculous officiating.

It was a hackfest. Maryland got called for twice as many fouls as the Gamecocks and I still think the Turds got away with murder.

Starting to wonder about King. It seems like he is pulling for us to lose with all this talk about how disastrous a loss would be. Why focus on what a loss would mean so much?

Maryland coach and players all crying about the foul calls in the post game.

Kinda funny actually. She says they were trying to playing physical to deal with our size, then complains about being called for fouls. If your plan is to play rough you have to expect to get called for the fouls.

They would be in complete denial. That's how people cope now.

You have misconstrued. You wouldn't be the first.
I can't read your mind. However, I find it strange for a Gamecock fan focusing on us losing so much. At the end of the day, we can't control that so I just find the focusing on losing before the game happens as a bit strange. If you said it one time, okay. However, you have going on about this disastrous loss for about 3 weeks now. Sooner or later that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. ....and what if we lose? 3 Final Fours in a row is some disaster? Yes, I would be disappointed if a loss was our fate. However, this program has a lot to be proud of. I choose to just support the team win, lose, or draw and expect a win until something else happens.

What are the odds of ever having a team this good again, I mean realistically? Here's a team that has already had one opportunity stolen from it. This is a historically great team, one of the greatest of all time. You can't massage away the yawning tragedy that not winning the national championship in their final year together would entail. Nobody can.

The only way South Carolina fails in Dallas is there is an injury to one of the key players or if the flu hits the team. There will be no losing in Dallas. South Carolina will not return to Columbia empty handed.

I just think you are bringing unnecessary negativity into what should be a great time in USC athletics. We can't help Covid in 2020. The bounce of the ball in Stanford in 2021 happens in sports. All the team can do is play and do their best. They don't need to hearing whispers about the tragedy of a loss that hasn't happened yet. If it happens, it happens. However as FCB says, nobody intends to come back from Dallas empty handed.

If they don't win, they don't win. Doesn't mean we don't win another with a less talented team. That happens too.

I agree with Adcoop - the focus on losing does seem a bit strange.

But people say strange things about our team that they'd never say in the same situation with someone else - because of Dawn Staley. Some will never be able to get over it or accept it. Just the way it goes.

I detect an indefensible and unsubstantiated insinuation there, perhaps applicable to some but never to me. So at this point, someone's character is being tested - and it isn't mine.

Whatever I'm writing reflects what I'm thinking and feeling. I see no reason to censor myself in order to placate people who think differently. I'm respectful, non-abusive, and honest.

And now, the tragedy, the gnawing disappointment, the epochal non-realization are all complete. Our best aggregation of talent ever, maybe the best anyone has ever assembled, will finish with one national championship. It's horrible to contemplate.

I was waiting for you to weigh in King. You saw it coming. 42 straight wins. Tough to keep that up. The margins are so thin at this point. They did not play a good game and they are done.

It is sad this team couldn’t get it done. We need to recruit some outside shooters. It was apparent that Iowa took a page out of the scouting report from Ole Miss, UConn and others to pack it in and make our guards beat them from the outside. We couldn’t. We won’t have the presence inside next year that we did this year, but if we do we’re going to need better outside shooting to compliment it.

They packed it in like a can of sardines. They also did not deviate. Their plan made Boston and Cordoso irrelevant. It was like kryptonite to Dawn.

Exactly and what’s so mind boggling is good teams had done this all year against us and yet we didn’t have any real answer for it. The most obvious would have been being able to hit a wide open 15 footer.

Their easy give and go cuts to the basket were reflective of what other teams were doing all year with success.
