Anyone eating crow concerning OC Marcus Satterfield?

I was happy with the progress made by the end of last year. Bigly disapointed when we took a step backwards at the start of this season and didnt build on what we had. And now, we look as confused as ever and appear hellbent on forcing a round peg in a square hole. Imo, Beamer would be nuts to keep Saterfield another year. I cant imagine him saying we got to do a better job of coaching much longer.

I'm still confused as to how he got the job in the first place. With as much as USC is paying ($900k/year), they could have easily afforded a guy with more experience (or at the very least, more success as a play caller).

Beamer will have to fire him after the season though. In a situation like this, the AD (who has to be constantly selling the team to boosters), will usually force some staff changes in order to show that the team is making adjustments.

Bobo dumped us and Shane was in a bind. Seemed like a knee jerk hire at the time and likely was.
Rookie coach mistake.

I can see being in a bind contributing to this to an extent - but really, it was early January that he was hired. With the early signing period already passed, he could have slow played the hiring. Maybe he panicked because he was caught off-guard?

All that said, there was still no reason to pay the dude $900k. I can't imagine USC was trying to out-bid anyone. It's nice to have the cash available to pay top-dollar for top candidates. It's just wasteful to throw it at a friend.

Rookie coach....hindsight 20/20. Bet he won't make the same mistake again.
Shane did do well with White & Lembo & a few others.

It wasn't a knee jerk reaction. He hired a friend and it was likely the person he wanted to hire from the very beginning.

It's a shame our fans want to keep making excuses for the poor decision at OC.

A knee jerk response would be hire your friend for a year while looking for the one you want. Since he apparently didn't look for another one during all of last year tells me he has who he wants.

Keeping him the second year was what makes me question how much of a knee jerk it was.
Ok...so now the consensus is this was planned all along....Beamer never wanted Bobo and Satt was "the guy" all along.

Sounds like a conspiracy. Alex Jones would be proud.

Some of you are FOS.

Not at all, and your reaction seems over the top.

I've argued in the past that Satterfield was a knee jerk, last second decision. But if he was, this past off-season was the time to go out and get what should be the long term hire, and it didn't happen.

Fast forward to present day- it doesn’t look like Satterfield has worked out. I’d like to think Beamer is setting time aside during the week to research candidates.

I am not an insider so I don't know what went on behind closed doors BUT it would seem to me it would have been easier to lure a good oc looking for an opportunity at a big school last season with us,winning our bowl with merry go round quarterbacks and then having Rattler coming in. Maybe the one Beamer wanted wasn't available, maybe he was confident in satts abilities and didn't look around, or this could be Satts chance to prove himself. I would hope that regardless of the circumstances leading in to this year that it would be obvious to Coach by now that its time for a change. If he doesn't look for another option soon, all of them might be gone.

It's amazing what a difference a week makes. Last week we were 5-2 looking at 6-2 then 7-2 and now everything has blown up. Having it blow up is on Beamer. And he doesn't seem to have a clue.

Most new employees work a 90 day probation period. If they don't work out, they're shown the door. He's worse than what we had and shows know signs of improvement.

Beamer isn't a stupid man but he might be an extremely loyal one. His future here will be decided by the winner of his head vs his heart.

So towards the end o last season the offensive numbers were trending slightly upward with a trio of QB's. Along comes the off season with a commitment from Rattler. Beamer thinks this is the golden opportunity to launch the program to the next level. A second year OC, a star QB, a returning seasoned offensive line and a solid RB.

However, The OC is turning out to be a bust, the QB and offensive line looks confused, the solid RB is slightly injured from having to scrap for every yard. And our playmakers are mostly absent except for Bell who is watching from the sideline. Which is a totally different subject.

What coach throws a young man in front of the media (Bell) after he's not even part of the offense? That was about as classless of a move by a head coach that I have ever seen.

This team has some major issues and it starts at the CEO and trends down. Fire the OC and who takes over the play calling. Your not gonna hire a quality OC midseason. Just not gonna happen. So we fans are in for a long ride the rest of the season with a few feel good moments along the way.

The defense has matured nicely but as they found out against Mizzo, there is no taking time off during the season. You only get 12 chances.

I guess it's just part of being a Gamecock fan. The only thing left to say is team go out and win. Just win.

Jason Brown + the Dukes Mayo game + Rattler inbound.
Beamer made solid hires in his DC and STC...then turned around and hired an OC that had been fired after 2 seasons at Tenn Tech. That never made sense. Satt was leftovers and anyone being rationally objective could see it.

I agree.

Which means given the first opportunity (this offseason), he should have been dropped. I just can't fathom why he wasn't.

He kept him because we showed signs even with all the injuries and qb turnover. Add the bowl and you thought we would improve. We are just as bad so he now must make a change at years end. If we win out, then he may stay…..so we know he’s a gonner😆

How do you fire someone when basically they won the bowl game for us with a great offensive game plan?
That was a huge win for a rookie coach (Beamer)!

It was and remains awkward.

Laughable. No OC anywhere would touch us if we had done something so stupid after one year concerning the dumpster fire he took over.

One quality win that counted for nothing.
3...UF, AU & UNC....all after the famous "bye" week where we started Jason Brown v. UF.

May not mean much to some fans, but it meant a lot to the players.

We got destroyed in embarrassing fashion by UT 45-20 which started out 35-0. That was a far cry from a win. It surely didn't mean much to the fans. I hope not to the players.

My bad....it was AU after the bye week. Brown didn't start before the bye week.
