Anyone keeping up with the Tour de France?

Yes, from my understanding the person with the sign is at large. I don't understand why they allow folks so close to the riders. Maybe because it's such a long race and nearly impossible to monitor?

Crazy scene for sure.

Holy crap, I heard them talking about it yesterday, but never saw the video, that was crazy!

Those fans are crazy. Getting into the road all the time. Especially in the mountains. One time, Lance Armstrong caught his bike on some woman's purse and he went down.

They said the sign is in german, sending a message back home to her grandmother.

I wonder if it said "Please send money. I have an unplanned expense coming up soon..."

I watch every minute of it. My favorite parts are when they are going up mountains about 7 mph. I’m not kidding. This is the greatest sporting event in the world and possibly the best athletes in the world. The fans are crazy which makes it so fun. But what happened is terrible

I keep it on in my office. It's great in the background. Great scenery, calm announcers, big event. It's like having The Masters on during the work week.

Best athletes in the world? Not even close. Best CONDITIONED athletes? I might agree with that.

Yeah, they were perfectly calm until Van der poel broke away at the finish yesterday, then he sounded like a hockey announcer!

I don't understand why there are not more crashes. They ride almost shoulder to shoulder for hours. Great athletes. Their aerobic conditioning is awesome. It is just unfortunate that many have trained so hard and have had their chance ripped from them but a stupid spectator

Or ripped away by drugs!

I was surprised at the size of that crash. With respect to riding a bicycle, theses riders went in excess of 120 miles in one day, over a terrain challenging course, they are in great shape. I ride a bicycle everyday, usually on Ft. Jackson and try and get in 15-20 miles per day. There are some well trained bicyclist out there, both men and women, who pass me like they are the Blue Angels. Great sport.

That is a fair statement but who would be better? I've gone back and forth with people about this comparing them to Jordan, Tiger, etc. I get the argument but these guys sprint on a bike at 63mph after riding sometimes 120 miles or more. Many of them are long distance swimmers and runners when the don't ride. It's more than just conditioning and fitness. Anyway I LOVE Le Tour.

I guess it just seems that cyclists need a smaller skill set than some other sports. There doesn’t seem to be a demand for agility, change of direction, hand-eye coordination, etc.

That said, I had a college roommate who was a locally competitive cyclist. I was in pretty good shape back then, and the one day he took me riding showed me that I was nowhere near his level.
