We are going to be another 7-6 team. Only Vanderbilt has less selections. I personally think Phil is wrong. We have some pretty good up and coming talent. I worry most about the offensive line though. The Stadniks have just not come through for us, Alan Knott is small and Donnell Stanley is inexperienced. Waldrop is injury prone as well as Matulis. Zandi is unproven. I see lots to be concerned about here. Please someone help me feel better about the OL.

Compare this year's roster to the team when Clowney was a freshman, and I dare you to tell me we're just as talented. Steele is correct. Some of you just won't acknolwdge that King Steve quit 3 years ago. I suppose more of you will admit it after this season.

look at 2011...Clowney, Shaw, Lattimore, Alshon, Gilmore, Ingram, Holloman, Bruce? That's all guys who played in the NFL.

now...Cooper and Shell are the only Locks that are NFL bound. A bunch of our sophmores and freshmen MIGHT develop into that. But that's the key. We've got some talent but very few difference makers.

Williams, Lewis, Sawyer, Samuel, Moore, Lammons, Wideman, Walton, Smith and a bunch of freshmen have a chance to be there but they either haven't proven it or elevated their game to that level.

Absolutely right, he's just riding the last year or two out. We missed our chance a couple of years ago and the run is over. People will see if this year. 7-5 or 6-6 year at best.

Hahahaha got your fingers crossed.

We started losing coaches a few years back and their replacements were not ready for prime time. Recruiting and coaching have taken a major hit.

We had 10 on that list last year. Steele does a lot of research so the drop off is definitely alarming.

I'm beginning to wonder if the 9 to 5, coaches deserve a family life attitude that Spurrier touts has affected the overall effort put into the recruiting and it's starting to show. That attitude is fine but a) you can't get complacent and b) you better work as hard as your opponent when you are on the job.

I live by that attitude as well, because family life is more important to me than financial or any type of career success. I'm willing to leave dollars on the table to spend time with my family. But I also fully recognize that I won't be as successful in my career as some of my peers. Spurrier may full well be a more successful person with this attitude (as compared to some of his peers), but he won't be a successful coach in the SEC with that attitude, not anymore.

Yeah because Phil Steele's list always predict everything 100% correct. Heck Biff didn't need to steal The Sports Almanac from Marty McFly. He could have just waited until Phil Steele came onto the scene and used his magazine and bet on each upcoming football season. It is pretty sad that so many supposed Gamecock fans are using a preseason publication like that to run Spurrier into the ground. "Fans" like y'all remind me of just how little we deserve SOS. One average (formerly would have been considered very good) season after four that we never could have imagined and SOS is now a quitter and sucks according to y'all. Smh...

I definitely applaud you for it and that attitude has worked for Spurrier in the past. It's just that we are South Carolina not Florida. You have to maintain a higher, consistent level of effort here than there. And I am beginning to question the effort.

Oddly the second part of your post is much funnier than the first. Probably not your intent. Last time I checked the university is cutting pretty big checks to the coaching staff. So what we "deserve" is a two way street.

Yeah and using that logic SOS is about the only coach in our history who has actually given us our money's worth. But let's not let that little bit information get in the way of bashing him.

Well, IMO Phil Steele is a shadow of his former self. Just not that accurate anymore. I know from a Clemson perspective his All-ACC teams were pretty screwed up if you ask me. So, I wouldn't necessarily feel you have no talent based on him.

I did have a question about your O line-- Shell is obviously an NFL level talent. Why doesn't he play left tackle for you guys? Don't most teams put their best tackle on the left? Or do you think he may switch this year?

i don't normally find myself in agreement with the obligatory "how dare you question (insert coach here)??" sunshine pumper raving, but in this case manning has stumbled into a good point. Mr. Steele probably does more research than anyone in the world, yet his predictions are almost always wrong.

You're not getting paid $4MM+ per year either.

It's pretty simple and it shouldn't come as a shock to anyone who watched our team last year that any success we have in 2015 will have to come as a result of new players. So, yes, we will be a 7-6 team if the new guys don't add anything this year. Steele is basing his predictions on what has happened on the field. Pretty understandable and I would agree with his picks based on what we have seen.

Personally though I believe that Qua Lewis and some of the other D-line recruits have the potential to be pretty good. That in turn will make our secondary's job a lot easier. We have no idea how good Connor Mitch will be. How will David Williams look when he starts getting a lot of carries? I'd say he could be pretty good and as good as MD28 when he was healthy.

This should be a rebuilding year. If those new guys turn out to be good, which is definitely possible, then we might surprise a lot of people. It happens every year....there is always a a surprise team in the conference. Why not South Carolina in 2015?

I always buy the Sporting News version every just for the coffee table handy reference. The year we finished AP #4 they had us #3. Pretty good. But on the rest of the top ten they missed on six. Not defending Steele but I don't think any of them are better than the other. Still he does do an awful lot of research and should probably be the most accurate on that alone.

As for the other guy saying I'm bashing Spurrier, if that's bashing it's pretty mild.

No further comment. I hope all pundits are wrong.

I think it will be hard for anyone outside of our fan base to be excited about the coming year. I would think most are calling it like it is....It may not end up that way but that's what it looks like.

Hey now Cali...I am usually optimistic is most all aspects of life but I am far from a raving sunshine pumper. I'm also far from a pessimist that hides under the cloak of being a realist, lol. By the way, living out in Cali, aren't you supposed to have a laid back sunny optimistic view of life...jk.

I understand the reason behind low predictions but I don't understand those who can look at the team and say we basically have no talent and then justify it by using those publications as written in stone. And I'm not saying that you or even Quisp fall into that category. There is plenty of talent on this team but it is young and/or inexperienced. However, there are plenty in this thread that used Steele's mag to basically justify running SOS into the ground. My personal favorite is by the troll on here that said "King Steve" quit 3 years ago." Yep SOS quit trying to do this job right before he was about to lead us to our second straight 11 win season which he followed up the next year with the third straight 11 win season. If the troll believes that and if some of the others believe the things they post about SOS, I honestly wonder how they don't hurt themselves trying to get dressed in the morning (maybe that's too harsh...maybe)

lol, spoken truly like someone who has never lived here. I've lived a lot of places and in the aggregate Californians are by far the least "laid-back" and "sunny" folks I've ever encountered.

Quit being so sensitive. Nobody said we have no talent. However, everything is relative. Everyone in the SEC is talented. Plus, it is undeniable we're not the same team we were 3 years ago. That team was loaded with superstars. There was an air of excitement over that team because we were loaded on both sides of the ball. We had a bunch of 4 star and a couple of 5 star players who lived up to the hype. We're nowhere near that in 2015. But, that doesn't mean we have no talent. We were still a few plays away from a pretty good season last year. This year will be tough because we're hoping some guys break out. But, the fact of the matter is most teams are hoping some of their guys break out.

What people are ticked over is the fact that SOS came as close as anyone at SC, but squandered it. In fact, the way he acts brings in to question whether he's placing personal goals above the program.

Yep I'm very sensitive. Statements like "King Steve quit 3 years ago" make perfect sense.

Come on Cali, you of all people can spot tongue in check post now, can't you? I know a few Californians who have relocated here to SC and you describe them pretty well.
