--John Gilreath has opted to graduate early and enroll at South Carolina in the fall. He was originally in the 2018 class but reclassified and will be eligible to play this season.
He’ll be on campus starting in January and can compete in any team workouts and scrimmages. He’ll also be eligible to play this season as the Gamecocks try to replace the bulk of their innings pitched from last year.
I’ve seen him pitch a couple times and he’s effectively working a fastball, changeup and curveball.
He’s still classified in the 2018 class by Diamond Prospects, but he’s rated the No. 2 LHP and No. 2 prospect in South Carolina.
--Xavier Bussey, an outfielder in the 2019 class, will also graduate early and enroll in August with the 2018 class. The primary reason for it is he and his family thinks he's ready to make the jump and getting coaching attention at the college level.
He's the No. 1 outfielder in North Carolina and the No. 26 overall prospect in the 2019 class currently. He's a guy who can make an impact early with a few draft-eligible players who've played outfield after this season: TJ Hopkins, Danny Blair, Carlos Cortes, Jacob Olson.
He runs a 6.55 second 60-yard dash and has a 99 mph exit velocity hitting, both of which are in the 99th percentile of the 2019 class. Bussey will still be eligible for the 2018 MLB Draft.
Some commitments
The Gamecocks picked up three junior college commitments since Saturday: two pitchers and an infielder.
Righty pitchers Reid Morgan and Hayden Lehman's commitments are detailed here. Morgan visited campus for the Arkansas game and was hosted by Jonah Bride and Adam Hill. He also got to meet some of the other pitchers after the game.
Morgan told me though that picking South Carolina was a very easy decision because of how much he loved Columbia.
George Callil, a middle infielder—primarily shortstop—from McLennan Community College in Texas. He's originally from Australia and made his way over to Texas after his community college coach saw his film.
He had a slash line of .304/.435/.436 last season and was a quintessential leadoff hitter with 61 runs scored and 13 stolen bases.
All three will enroll with the 2018 class.
