"After the pre-season where I was striking out constantly I kind of figured out that with two strikes I have to shorten up," Petry said about his 2-2 home run, his fifth two-strike homer of the year. "I saw what they [veterans] did, I learned from it, I see how calm and collected they are, and it's just good to see. I've learned a lot from that."
This is one of the most exciting things I have ever heard a Gamecock player say. Music to my ears. At a time of year we usually start to digress, this gives me hope we'll actually improve. That 2 strike swing was smooth. I was hoping to see it again just to make sure it wasnt a fluke but he got jammed in his next at bat so I couldnt compare. This quote says it wasnt. The fact he hit a HR with that swing says the compact swing loses no power... something I've been saying for years. If we can get a few more guys in the lineup to shorten it up, and maybe not with just 2 strikes, we're going to have an outstanding year.
Go Gamecocks
