Beamer Inks Contract Extension

Well-deserved. He has proven to all the haters that he deserved the shot he was given. Best first four years of any coach in South Carolina history, despite the total dumpster fire he took over.

Huge raise from 4 years ago at 2.75 to 8.1 million and has one winning conference record (5-3). Has won less than 50 percent of conference games but has a 2-2 record against the Tigers and that’s the most important part. Congratulations to Coach Beamer.

That's a whole different topic.

I liked the idea floated a few times that buyouts should be dictated by results. Buying out a 3-9 coach should not cost the same as a 9-3 coach.

But that would be a huge shift in contracts.

When agents have you by the balls during renegotiations, there's nothing you can do.

SEC Coaching Contracts are a component of an Elitist Club.

One of the last things they are going to agree to is sliding scale buyouts based on performance.

The best you're going to do is what we did with Beamer on the front end.

I calculate 48.6%/yr increase during that timespan. GO COCKS

Nobody was coming after Beamer so why the rush

How do you know that nobody was coming? That's not something which always hits the press. Some schools have class and keep discussions private.

The contract had to be re-negotiated this year, he had a great season, and won Coach of The Year. He received the SEC industry average.
He could have easily walked and found that money somewhere else based on performance.

Based on what performance? Beamer got a raise because he has beaten Clemson. The university has always put that up at the top. I think Coach Beamer has really surprised some people with his coaching abilities and that’s a good thing. Now he’s going to ride Sellers for another raise.

Now you're just being silly. The man won Coach of the Year, won 6 in a row, beat ranked teams back to back, almost made the playoffs and had all of the media talking about them. It was probably the most excited season in Gamecock Football History.

You’re arguing with a troll. He’s going to take any position that’s convenient at the moment no matter how it contradicts his other positions.

The most exciting 9-4 with a win against the Tigers. I agree with the coach of the year reward as it was unexpected. 8 million seems a little high to me for what he’s done that’s all.

I liked the A&M win personally. Then what would you do if you were the AD in their situation?

Good move by our athletic administration. Yeah, I like beating Clemson. But to me , that's just one game, an important game, but just one. Does anyone think that Ohio State is going to hold Ryan Day's and Ohio State's choke job versus Michigan against Day. I sure would love to have that problem.

The bottom line is that Beamer EARNED the new contract. If ANYTHING, he MIGHT be underpaid. Personally, I believe that Beamer's contract is a "down payment" expecting bigger and better things from him in the future.

I think it's it sounds high because it sounds like a lot of money. But in reality, it puts him basically in the middle of SEC coaches.

Coaches are just paid those astronomical amounts these days. Even the low end coaches.

No doubt about that and the cost to go to a game is crazy expensive. Have to get to 10 wins to make the playoffs and the gamecocks were right there late in the season. Expectations are certainly higher now after this past year.

Looking at the 3 recruiting services (Rivals, On3 and 247), the consensus ranking for SC is 20th for high school recruits and 13th for Portal recruits. That's good because you know that with rankings that high, there are some really, really good players that will help SC, as early as the upcoming season. If we continue getting the kind of coaching from Shane that we got this past season and that he showed glimpses of in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, no one will want to play South Carolina.

Then anything but a playoff game or a conference Championship game appearance is going to be considered a big disappointment for the fans from this point forward. Is 2025 going to be the year it happens?

I can only speak for MYSELF. My goal every season will be to make the playoffs.

I believe college football should do away with the bowls. But I realize cities look at bowl games as a money-maker. For ME, the season ends if you don't make the playoffs. That will be especially true for when the inevitable expansion to 16 teams happens in the next couple of years.

Regarding the 2025 season, I have said this before: I want to see how things look after the spring. That being said, some pre-season prognosticators have been high on the Gamecocks.

Having high expectations going into a season is something that Coach Beamer hasn’t experienced before and with basically a new defensive team and new offensive coordinator also.

Sadly, even the playoffs were a disappointment. Every last one of the "BYE" teams got beat. Apparently being idle that extra week just hurt them. And sadly, just like in several of the Bowl games, the referees made a huge impact on who won the games.

I really doubt anyone could actually prove it, but I just feel Vegas (gamblers) pay the referees to get the results they want.

Stock - Wouldn't the goal of every P5 team to be to make the playoffs and/or a NC?

I doubt they come into the thinking that all they want to do is make it to the TaxSlayer Bowl. :)

We came ever so close last season.

Maybe we'll have an opportunity while Sellers is around -- but it's going to be tough, especially given how the Playoff Committee handled this year's selections.

We're likely going to have to finish in the Top 3 or 4 in the SEC to receive an invitation.

This means both the team and staff are going to have to vastly overachieve in any given season - as many teams in the conference obviously have far better and deeper talent due to their resources and history.

As discussed prior, if they move to 16-teams or greater, that certainly would be a plus.

It's a good class by any metric when you look at our history.

However, we're currently ranked #12 overall in the SEC for the 2025 class.

When you combine this with what was mentioned above in regard to SEC playoff slots (2 or 3), it makes it very easy to see the challenge that lies in front of the staff and players in terms of a playoff bid in any given year.

None of us really know how good the recruiting and Portal is until they start playing. We do know Sellers is great and he will have plenty of WR and TE's to work with. Still not sure how our running game will turn out. The biggest unknown is will our D be able to match up with last seasons? I am not going to make any predictions until I see how they do in the Spring game. Even another 9 win season would be good, but it seems CFP wants at least 10.
Beamer seems to think they have filled the openings with plenty of talented new comers. We can all hope that is how it works out.

My biggest hope is to make it to the CFP. I would love to be in the conference championship game. Even the loser of that game should be in the CFP again.

Those 3 11 win years under HBC were great. His 6th year he was 9-5. His 7th-9th were the 11 win years. It only took Beamer 4 years to hit 9 wins. I would love an 11 win season now.

If Beamer can accomplish that, after having to fill in for all the SR's he just lost, we did not pay him enough.

Hope is good. As mentioned before, the Clemson and Illinois defensive schemes were a proxy for what we'll see from this point forward - especially in the SEC. We're not going to be able to surprise anyone with our unconventional style anymore. Also, the loss of Rocket Sanders will be big shoes to fill. He was very versatile and his absence in the bowl game was self-evident. I expect the defense to continue to play well overall. We've got some good incoming talent to help replace the losses and White is a high-quality DC.

Ward, I agree making the playoffs should be the goal of every team. I'm saying as a fan, that's my goal. Make the playoffs or the season is over, for me.

I agree, too, that the criteria used by the Selection Committee was poor. I said that weeks ago. I agree it will be tough to make the playoffs. But, that is my goal, as a fan. It's that or the season is over. That's how I feel about it. That is my attitude. Not everyone is going to feel that way. But, that's fine. I can only speak for myself and reflect only my emotions about it.

I have repeatedly said here that we will always have to overachieve because we will never have the talent of the historical powerhouses. We never have. We overachieved last year. Will we in 2025, as well????????????????????????????????????????????????????? That's my hope. Beamer has overachieved in 3 of his 4 years here. I've repeatedly said that too. Obviously, I'm hopeful he will do that every year. You know, his Dad Frank was never considered a great recruiter. Frank was a solid recruiter. But, Frank got the most out of the talent on hand. Right now, it looks like Shane is a "chip off the old block".

I'm of the opinion that Shula is an upgrade over Loggains.

Ward's response to you in his last 2 sentences sums up my thoughts on next season's defense. Clayton White is a quality DC.

Stock - My point is that everyone's attitude starting the season that we want to make the playoffs.

Wanting it to happen and the chances that it will happen are two completely different things, as referenced in your other post I responded to on this thread today.

I don't disagree with what you are saying. I think where I may differ with others (and maybe you) is that, for me, the season will be over if we don't make the playoffs.

The path to the playoffs is so narrow for us that it will probably take a 1 loss regular season for us to get in based on the screwed up logic they use to pick teams. Lots of people think the LSU loss kept us out this year. It didn't. The final 12 would have been the same. They will never punish a team for losing a conference championship game, and Tennessee would have still been picked over us with only 2 loses.

Do any of us know what they may be doing behind the scenes to change how they go about selecting playoff teams, seeding teams, etc.? Of course not. To be sure, it's always going to be difficult to get into the playoffs. But it could get easier if 1. They make changes to the selection/seeding process and 2. increase (in a couple of years) the number of teams making it to 16. A study made after the 12-team playoff format was started found that South Carolina would have made the playoffs 2 times (during the 3-year stretch under Spurrier when we finished in the Top 10). So, I would not be so pessimistic. Beamer has improved the coaching staff in the off-season (which is the most important thing he has done) and is bringing in quality players who can compete. Hopefully, with good coaching like we had this past season, our coaches will put our players in the position to get into the playoffs. I'm not saying that Beamer is "Steve Spurrier"......yet. But he may be a "chip off the old block" (Frank Beamer). If he is like his "old man", he could get us into the playoffs in the future.

Spurrier would have only made it twice? I'm curious what circumstances would have kept that third team out.
