Roster Movement
The Braves have DFA Shane Greene and called up LHP Minter to shore up the bullpen. This probably spells the end of Hreene unless he agrees to try to work things out in Gwinnett.
The Braves D’Arnaud will catch Ian Anderson on Gwinnett tonight and is scheduled to rejoin the Major League roster tomorrow.
Marcel Ozuna’s Court date has been rescheduled to September 9th as plea deals are being negotiated. It is expected that he will plead to a lesser charge and that no jail time will be attached. MLB will also render a decision on suspension after the legal course has been completed.
Pregame analysis
Th Braves are throwing Smyly tonight against a very good hitting Reds team who are lead by Rookie of the Year Candidate Jonathan India, who really impressed me in the earlier series as he has a good bat and plays excellent defense. They are also lead by a good hitting Nick Castellanos and a resurgent Home run hitting Joey Votto. It will be key for Smyly to limit his pitches per inning, keep the ball in the park and give the Braves more than 4 innings of service. He seems to completely lose effectiveness at the 80-85 pitch count so limiting long counts will determine his longevity.
The Reds are throwing Sonny Gray who is a very good pitcher who relies on fastball placement and control . He will give up home runs but counts on a lot of swings high on the strike zone which has been a problem for some of our hitter to lay off. If the Braves can get him rattled early and ambush him when he gets the ball lower in the zone this could be a great night for the club. Looking at the head to head match ups the Joc Pederson is 0-10 with 7 K’s while Soler is 0-8 with 2k. Vogt has not faced him and Albies is 1-7. The middle of the order has hit him very well so let’s just hope that the te concept and approach to winning baseball is the message on the batting cage.
