1. Commitment Corner: Mohamed Kaba

USC picked up verbal commitment No. 6 for the 2020 class on Thursday when North Carolina linebacker Mohamed Kaba chose the Gamecocks over NC State and multiple other options.

Bio: 6-foot-3, 205-pounds. Three-star prospect, no. 36 outside linebacker and No. 14 overall prospect in North Carolina.

Recruiter of record: Kyle Krantz, Coleman Hutzler

Offers: Clemson, Duke, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Wisconsin

Why South Carolina? "It just felt different at South Carolina. I only went there twice, but when I went there and saw practice, I saw the coaches and how they were involved at practice. That pretty much stood out to me. You always want to see how the coaches interact with the players and how they coach, when it comes down to it."

Scouting Report: "Kaba is a big, rangy player that is going to be able to do a lot of different things for South Carolina. Kaba seems to have great speed for a player his size. He has a ton of upside as a linebacker. He has a big frame to fill out, is a strong hitter, and knows how to play in coverage" – Rivals.com’s Adam Friedman

2. ⚾ USC hosts Kentucky

Who: South Carolina (24-24, 5-19 SEC) vs. Kentucky (24-24, 6-18 SEC)
Where: Founders Park (Columbia, S.C.)

• Friday, 7 p.m., SECN, TuneIn
• Saturday, 12 p.m., SECN, TuneIn
• Sunday, 12 p.m., SECN, TuneIn

UK: LHP Mason Hazelwood (2-3, 3.90), LHP Dillon Marsh (3-2, 5.66), RHP Zack Thompson (5-1, 2.08)

This is a huge series for the Gamecocks, needing to win this one to try and get into the SEC Tournament. They’ll face another team near the bottom of the SEC standings in Kentucky in what players have called a must-win game.

The Wildcats have had their struggles, winning just one SEC series all year, but have a potential first-round pick in Zack Thompson pitching on Sunday.

The Gamecocks have lost seven straight and are 2-8 in their last 10 games.

Up next: South Carolina finishes its home slate Tuesday, hosting USC Upstate at 7 p.m.
