Dear Coach/AD Ray Tanner,

I have tried and continue to try to support our Basketball Coach Frank Martin, however, as time goes by, games and seasons go by, I honestly do not believe Frank is the answer to our long suffering basketball fans.

Observing his recruiting, strategy, playing time, substation rotations and his style of coaching leads me to believe, we will not be any better at the end of his 5 or 6 year contract. We're 3 years in and honestly, I don't see improvement. Other coaches, other teams show improvement in years 1-2 with a new coach and/or system regardless of how "bare" the inherited team was.

Please make the hard decisions and find us a basketball coach to restore our University to some kind of legitimate/periodical (at least) tournament team. If it is going to get done, its better to take action sooner than later.

Thank you,

why not actually send that to Ray Tanner and not post it here.... didn't think so.....I don't see the point...

816....did just that with the email I got from USC websites!

Plus, I'm pretty sure, somebody on that staff follows messages boards....if not they should.

thanks for your help

I agree...no need to post here. Better yet...actually mail it to him. You know he is aware of the problems.

you are all crazy or either ignorant with regards to the knowledge of our program not to know just how bad a shape Darrin Horn left this program in. If you want to continue to see what we have seen the last four or five years, go ahead and push to have him fired and let's see. But go ask all of the graduates and players/amums still involved with the program if he is the right guy and see if their answer isn't 100% yes. Give me a break.

had they held on to that lead yesterday, would you feel any differently? I certainly didn't see any post on these boards: asking for him to be fired before that time. This is all just asinine.

Are you a big donor to USC? If not, I don't see that it will do much good. Please let us know if you get a response. I once sent Spurrier, Jr a suggestion about a passing strategy and he did reply to me (long ago) and said that he had thought of my idea too.

This is year 3, there is not one (1) horn player on this team.....what are you seeing that every other person with any basketball knowledge is not seeing....I will say they generally hustle on defense...you think the 2 commits we got and the returners are going change this?

You must know anything of have forgotten that when Frank came in, most of the players were gone thanks to Horn chasing them away. Frank had to get what he could in his first two years of recruiting... In basketball, you recuit 9th graders an to come in... It takes time to build relationships in basketball and you just don't pick up gray players over night...

Any one who doesn't know a whole lot about basketball like me would know that...

Dear Tanner, this is in effect year two under Coach Martin because after year one, it was a complete rebuilding job. Martin is ten times the coach Horn will ever be and would be doing a lot better if Horn didn't sabotage the program.

Yes and no on the year-3 comment. Technically, he is in year 3, but with the transfers and Martin not having recruiting ties, he was relegated to recruiting filler during his first couple of years. Very few of these players would be recruited once Frank has established recruiting ties/relationships.

I think Notice, Thornwell, and Henry were good gets, but you can't convince me that Frank would've recruited the others once he was established.

Dear Ray Tanner.

Thanks for your effort. Please return to be our baseball coach. Our baseball and football programs have declined under your leadership.

Amen! Don't know how to spell hallelujua.
FM is the man for the job. I like his coaching style and his no nonsense approach. I wish we had him on the defensive FB staff.
He may need at least 8 yrs to get it going. We gave Casper Milquetoast 7 yrs and yeah I know NIT champs but he did nothing with those trophies when he should have been able to use that as a way to get to the real tourney.
Some on the team are such poor shooters that they are afraid to shoot. How do you fix that? Recruiting.

While I agree with almost everything you've said, I don't believe the middle of the season is the time to give up supporting the team...in any sport.

Let's wait until season"s end and see how they finish. Until then everyone should continue to support them for the players sake.

Nope I got rid of mine two coaches ago. Got tired of hearing all the whinny ass Greg Marshall slurpers. I guess this silver spur can't have an opinion on Men's basketball or any other USC sport since I don't only have football tickets huh?

It's year 3, you can stop right there. It's only year 3. It takes way longer than that to get a team that is at rock bottom get off the bottom. No AD in his right mind would bail on a guy after only 3 years right when he is set to have the best roster he ever had the next year. Fans posting on here are too reactionary every time we lose. It's same garbage after every game. Everyone needs to stop coming to conclusions based on their emotions. This is not something we can quickly dig ourselves out of this time. It's going to take a lot of patience because Horn burned this program to ground and scattered the ashes.

Martin's team showed improvement after the 1st yr. I don't think they will this yr, although the season's not over. Next season is the year to see if he's getting it done. Carolina will be an experience team and imo there will be no excuses for not showing major improvement. The 4th yr is plenty of time to show if you're turning it around.

Last year the team didn't show improvement until late February and March. We have 2 quality recruits coming in next season plus we will get our injured freshmen back. We only lose 1 senior. I am 100% behind Frank.
