DeChambeau vs Koepka

In a fight? Or just who think is the better golfer?

In a fight, DeChambeau. And I like DeChambeau's game (and how he's challenging the way people look at golf strategy), but I think Koepka's game definitely translates better for consistency over the long-term.

Toss up. If I had to pick one it would be DeChambeau.
Call it a hunch, but I dont see either doing well long term. Both will battle staying physically fit 10 years from now and neither will make it as far as the senior tour. Nothing to base that on, just a feeling.
Especially Bryson. When he hits 40 he won't be able to maintain that muscle mass. Neither will last as long as Phil.

If these two really do start to feud and then you throw in players like Patrick Reed, then Golf will become "Gentlemens Nascar". I truly think that has been a huge part of destroying Nascar. All the drivers fussing and even fighting in the pits. I dont see physical confrontation with golf but verbal jabs and all that will be bad for the game. People watch sports alot of time to get away from a world that lives to act that way. Once you start bringing that soap opera into a sport, people lose interest. I never cared for Nascar but really dont even know if it exists anymore because you never hear about it. I also wrote off the NBA because I was tired of the drama and prima-donnas of the sport anymore. Golf needs to make sure they avoid that same stuff. Its not quite strong enough outside of the Majors, to sustain people avoiding it because of the crap.

Both are kind of pricks that take offense easily. One complained loudly about the other taking too long to line up shots. Bickering went back and forth like 3rd graders. Neither one comes off looking good.
I believe that Koepka is clearly the more prickly of the two. His recent injury problems have probably wrought some frustration that has added to his irritability.

DeChambeau's approach is more extreme - way more extreme. As a golfing method, it will have the shorter shelf life.

Koepka is also a gym rat. It has helped him to the heights he has attained, but he has sustained significant wrist - and now knee - injuries. His training regimen is taking him down the same road as Tiger, physically.

Obviously, that right knee has not been fully corrected. He needs to fix that with certainty or he's in for a lot more underachievement and futility. It's amazing how good he is while gimpy. I see him as the most gifted golfer of the era, a real athlete, but also a sullen, smoldering individual.

Koepka vs Woodland ?
They look similar in build.

Thanks for the update on Koepka and Bryson. My coworker showed me the video of Bryson walking by and saying something to Brooks but we couldn’t tell what it was.

I don't think drivers sniping at one another or even a couple of fights led to the decline in NASCAR. I think a good back and forth rivalry and more "real" drivers would actually help NASCAR. The drivers seem to artificial now.

For the past few years I've been pulling for Koepka, but not last week. I don't care for his facial hair, so I broke down and rooted for Phil. Of course, anybody but Xander Schauffle as far as I'm concerned.

I was about to say the same...Some of these players should take note of the likes of Tiger and David Duval. Both tried to change their bodies through weights and extreme diets and didn't turnout so good...especially for Duval. I did hear Phil said he fasts for 36 hours a week to retune his body. At age 60 I should try that and see how that goes.

I know it doesn’t work like this. But I couldn’t help but think Koepka laid back or was told to to give Phil the win. I know that’s not what happened but what world class golfer doubles both par 5’s without a lost ball off the tee? And then missing 2 and 3 footers with no break.🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Koepka is a much better golfer and is going to finish his career with 5+ majors. DeChambeau has all of two top 10 major finishes. Brooks already has 14 top 10s and 4 wins. Brooks is already an all-time great. Despite his US Open win, DeChambeau is still more circus freak than anything else.

Great point. This is particularly true for a sport that depends on self reporting and class to give it the qualities that attract its fans. If it loses these qualities and becomes a sideshow, its popularity will crater. The personal interests of every player and fan is improvement on the course, not sharpening your blame game.

Bryson was whining about a shot hit into a waste area. He was seen on camera saying “I hit that ball too good to be in this position.” David Duval’s response was the ball could not have been hit that good because it was 30 yards off line to the center of the fairway. When that happened, that was the first time I noticed how slow DeChambeau was playing. As the tournament went along, I began to realize how much he slowed down the tournament when he could not just bomb away everywhere. In those situations, Kevin Na is the only player I have ever seen slower to hit a shot.

I enjoyed the battle between the auto companies. Chevy v Ford often depended on who you pulled for. That element has been completely done away with in the uniform, one-size fits all era of the sport.

I'm not a fan of either.Brooks has the game that will go further.Just not a fan of how Bryson plays. His game has no flow to it at all.Just swing as hard as you can.The best golf swings and the ones that hold us best over time look effortless.

I have to say though - it does make things interesting. I wouldn't want to see them chest-to-chest yelling in each other's faces, but trading barbs under their breath as they clearly show disdain for each other is fantastic.
Does anyone like playing with Koepka? Seriously, he seems to chafe everyone. Maybe they should stick him and Reed together every tournament.

I don't like either. Brooks doesn't even seem to enjoy golf and DeChambeau irks the crap out of me. If I hear one more thing about DeChambeau as the "Mad Scientist" just because he sawed down some shaft lengths, I'm going to scream.

I like Lodewicus Theodorus Oosthuizen. Have for years. He's laid back and I could watch his swing all day.

I forget who Koepka was talking about a couple of months ago where he pointed out how many major wins he had himself and the one competitor he was asked about only had one. Something like that. Anyway, thought it was pretty classless.

I was thinking something similar to this watching Phil on the last 3 holes sunday. Golf had Jack and Arnie for a period that boosted its popularity, the 90's and 2000's had phil and tiger that really pushed golf into popularity. My worry is who does the game have now? DJ and Koepka are total tools and have the charisma of a wet towel balled up in the bathroom floor, Spieth and Rickie are great but neither is experiencing a lot of success right now. You saw it with Tiger winning the masters last year and Phil winning the PGA this year that fans are still drawn to them. Who is going to be the player/players that keep the game thriving?

A lot of the foreign players seem to be much more personable with the exception of Speith and a couple of younger players. Rory appears to have more fun when he is not playing up to par than Keopka and Reed do when they are playing well.

Interesting....but, honestly Phil is so old school, I wouldn't expect him to say otherwise.

I'm still basking in the glow of what he pulled off. Amazing!
