Did anyone hear Bennie from Laurens on the Chad Holbrook call-in show?

He started talking briefly about the regression of the baseball program and they cut him off saying he didn't have a question. They're really cracking down on any fan negativity.

In their defense, it is a call-in show where people address questions to the coach, not a call-in show where fans lecture the coach. Not everything is some grand conspiracy.

I heard it. They cut him off before he had a chance to ask a question.

Chad didn't seem to mind the caller. Andy got a little smart mouthed about it though - which is disappointing.
Andy has done that before - Todd does that as well. Something about thin skin with those play by play guys.

Regular talk show hosts can handle that stuff well - but play by play guys seem to get offended - which is silly.

If you are going to have a call in show- you have to be a big boy and let callers say what they want to say within reason (no bad words, etc).

The call in radio hosts in SC are a JOKE. They "spout" the party line and simply refuse to admit that it is time for someone to be fired. It is as though they are being paid by the university to support the incumbent coach, no matter how bad things get. They are all a bunch of "milk toast" with no back bone to "call a spade a spade." They never want anyone fired...they all either have their heads stuck in the sand or up their butts.

Sorry, I have no problem with those guys cutting off callers like that. Don't see any benefit of coaches having direct conversations on air with folks looking to vent their frustration. Not exactly a fair fight either.

That's pretty low down.

He didn't say he sucked. He was asking what he was going to do to correct the problems. Chad should be able to handle tough questions anyway. Pressure is part of what he signed up for and he gets paid handsomely. "Low down"? Really how is it any different than us complaining on this board that he's clueless all the time?

So many of them act as though they are on guard to keep from saying anything that's not nice and, thus, lose their press credentials from the college program which is being criticized. The lack of professionalism is annoying, imo.

I think it's more of a case of them being rightly irritated at having to even be a part of these circuses. The "in-season" coach's call-in show...in all sports... is useless & a waste of time. "Tell me, Chad, how are you gonna right this sinking ship"?? "Well, Bennie, here's my 10 point plan for gettin' this thing turned around by this weekend...". "If that don't work, I'll slake y'all's blood lust by tenderin' my resignation to A.D. Tanner 1st thing Monday a.m."

"rightly irrirated"? Urban Meyer is getting paid $2,700,000 per year for all his media obligations, including his radio and tv show. I don't know how much Spurrier gets paid; I'm sure its a substantial amount. Where do I sign up to be a part of that circus?

He should have said.. "Question? With the regression of the baseball program...."

I never listen to Carolina calls or any other team call in shows...

I heard it. I never heard him form or attempt to form a question. I did enjoy his short man syndrome rant tho. Provided a few laughs while sitting in traffic.

Also, Demetra is clearly a woman.

Gosh, I hope Chad doesn't get a case of the feel bads when he gets asked tough questions about losing to all the little schools in the state. Poor fella.

I know one thing.....It was hard to get through. I tried for 10 minutes & only got the busy signal. Quit trying after that.

I thought I heard him trying to ask a question. Either way, Demetra never asked him if he had a question, he just cut him off. At least on Spurrier's show, Todd will ask the caller if they have a question before hanging up on them. It was pretty obvious they were protecting Chad and instead focusing on discussion about Crowe's rehab, Martin's cycle and the Vandy series.

Didn't hear that one, but I did hear Heath Kline correctly put a caller in his place earlier. The caller said something to the effect that the program is "clearly in a state of decline EVERY year since Chad got the job." That's b.s.
Year 1: Got to Super Regional - Lost on the road in Game 3 of Super Regional to a national seed. (Not what I call a bad year)
Year 2: Despite all of the injuries, team was still able to host a regional. Folks don't remember the MASH unite that the team was last year and team still "won anyway" 40 games etc.

This year is a bad year, no question. But if you want to fire a coach for 1 bad year without giving him the chance to address what went wrong (whether it was recruiting, coaching, team chemistry) then you're not allowing a coach to do his job. Heath also brought up that even Calipari (and he is by no means comaring the resume of Holbrook and Calipari) went to the NIT one year with a UK team that everyone thought would be a national seed at the beginning of the year. It does happen.

If you think Year 1 and Year 2 were "periods of decline" then you are just unrealistic about college baseball.

I'm disappointed about this year - perhaps recruting was off for a year or so, or some players just didn't pan out. Heck, now that Chad is HC, I would assume the assistants do more of what he used to do in recruiting. So maybe that's the issue. Maybe there's just no leadership among the players. (Geez, not to single a guy out, but one of our top hitters came up three times vs. PC the other night with 2 runners on each time, and he went 0-3... sometimes players need to step up and play!)

I think Holbrook is doing his best to give some guys chances to work out of slumps, he's tried inserting new guys into lineup etc.... just have to give him a chance to sort it out at the end of the year. We should come to the reality that getting to Omaha is not possible every year.

Go Gamecocks!

Well considering that Tommy and Andy work for the University, they are paid to spout the party line. This shouldn't be a shock to anyone.

My radio shoots out hot burning acid anytime the phrases brought to you by or how you doin' are sent through it.

Good points. With regards to the bolded...with all due respect...KMart has more than done his job this year. If anyone deserves an "off" night it's him.

I wouldn't put all play by play guys under the same umbrella. I've listened to other coach's shows in other markets and the hosts are much more professional.

Andy is a clown. For years he got argumentative with anyone who didn't agree with his assessment that Darrin Horn was not an excellent coach. Oops! He kisses Frank Martin's a** and sounds afraid of him. It's one thing to not be critical of coaches, but it's another to insult the fan's intelligence.

I wouldn't judge all announcers on the clown show that is Demetra and Ellis though.

The state of South Carolina doesn't exactly churn out the brightest callers, either. Most of them sound 3 or 4 beers in.
