Dukes Mayo Bowl it is

Let's at least make this interesting:

Loser has to use Miracle Whip for the next year!
I had a great uncle that we all used to love. He'd take all us kids swimming, let us cut his grass and pay us pretty good money, we'd play baseball in his field behind the house, and he even put up a basketball goal on his garage for us. Always got nice gifts from him at Christmas. Then one day I noticed a big jar of Miracle Whip in his refrigerator

Just when you think you know somebody. Last I heard, he died in prison.

For those complaining, I don’t get it. If you are actually intending to go, this is the easiest road trip and to a large city in an NFL stadium against a team we owe a beat down, and that the rest of the country has actually heard of. Would you rather be playing directional state school in the cess pool of Shreveport or Birmingham and in a dump of a stadium?!

Honestly I would love to check out the new stadium in BHam. It’s supposedly downtown where all the nightlife is. The Belk bowl was a disappointment for me when I went. Not much to do as far as activities went, think the fan fest got canceled that year, they didn’t sell any merch, the game was so boring and dreadful to watch. If I go this time I won’t rent a hotel, I’ll just wake up early and leave that morning around 7.

I don't think you have to worry about that. I'm more concerned about the ability than the desire.
I’m with you but the Clemson game was the first game we didn’t show up. We need to nip that

Wish we could switch with them to be honest....UT basically staying home as well, playing in Music City Bowl.
DING, DING, DING...we have a winner...I live 3 hours to Charlotte and 4 hours to Nashville. Given the choice, Nashville for me!!! Since we are in the Mayo Bowl, I wanted VT BADLY or even NCSU...UNC does not tickle my fancy whatsoever....

Who do they think these bowls are for, the players? Gheeesh. Seriously, some people here will bitch about anything. Can't imagine some of you building anything, and certainly not a team.

Though now owned by C. F. Sauer Company of Richmond, Virginia, Duke's mayonnaise is still produced in Greenville, the city of its birth. Eugenia Duke mixed her first batch of mayonnaise in her home on Manly Street sometime in the early years of the twentieth century (1917 is the date most often cited).

Can't have a genuine mater sammich without Duke's.

This decision is ALWAYS the SEC. Geesh.
Curious, is this stay in your back yard bowl picking stuff an SEC thing? Couldnt help but notice Tenn, us and UF play in our back yards while Coastal, App St and Clemson head to Florida.

We'll need a little help from Mack to pull off a win. He has been known to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The original building still stands on the River Walk on the Reedy R. I have a prenup agreement that my wife has to always stock Duke's. She can buy any other she wants. But we must have Duke's.

Agreed, this is really disappointing. We already play each other semi-regularly and in Charlotte to boot. The best part about bowl season is interesting matchups you'd never see otherwise.
This a good option for us. For the lower tier bowls, the conference clearly had a plan to keep schools somewhat close to home. Us to Charlotte. Tennessee to Nashville, Auburn to Birmingham, Miss State to Memphis. With the ongoing affects of COVID this was probably a smart move.

If we had not been taken to go to Charlotte we would have dropped to Birmingham to play Houston in UAB's 40,000 seat stadium. Charlotte vs the Heels at the home of the Panthers is far better for Carolina.

Not sure, but I do remember reading in some of the past selections that reducing costs to the schools is one of the factors.
Another thing I noticed was we are the only SEC East team playing an ACC team. In fact the only other SEC team playing an ACC school is aTm playing Wake. And a closer look has a lot of schools all over the place. NC St headed to California for one. Not sure I'm buying this playing close to home mandate thing. Somehow the ACC ends up playing Big12, Big10, PAC12, SEC and others. I mean, good for them but it seems awfully strange to me that they would rate that.

Sick of playing UNC/NCST. We play them all the damn time.
No we don't play them all the time. IMO, we don't play them enough. I would like to see us play one NC ACC school every year, rotating between Columbia, Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hell, Winston Salem, and Charlotte.

I add Charlotte in there because I can see playing the Holes on a rotating basis in Columbia, Chapel Hell, and Charlotte. Maybe play the Holes every 3-4 years, which means they would come to Columbia approximately once a decade, we go up there once every ~10 years, and we meet in Charlotte with a similar frequency. Do something similar with Dook, Wake, & NCSU.

I'm aware that the SEC schedule (and the difficulty of it) and the need to have 7 home games for sufficient revenue makes such highly unlikely.

Bowls have their conference tie-ins. I would love to play a B1G team or a PAC team over an ACC team. But the match-ups seem to be between the conferences and the bowls representatives.

I remember when we kept going back to the Outback and fans were complaining.....the Cotton was an option for us (and they wanted us IIRC) but the SEC said no.

How many would travel to Nashville or Birmingham for a game?

My guess is that more Gamecock fans would travel to Charlotte and attend the game than they would to Birmingham. Now more fans would likely spend the night in Birmingham and "do stuff" in the area than they would Charlotte, but with all the bowl games out there, this is probably the best deal available for the Bowl Game and the participating schools.

My understanding is that each participating school must cover their ticket allotment, and will have to "eat" what they don't sell, i.e., Charlotte may be the best deal for USC in the current situation.

I've wanted to see us play in the Cotton since I was a kid. That's kinda my point. I'd like to see bowl games as a chance to see matchups and places you dont normally get to see. In fact I wouldnt be opposed to playing UNC every year in the regular season if it meant we didnt have to see them in a bowl. But I digress. It is what it is.

That is what I was thinking. The City of Charlotte is the big loser in this match up as I would guess many fans on both sides that will be attending are within driving distance to Charlotte.

By definition, both schools are directional.
