Dustin Johnson going for the “bag”

I have no dog in this fight, but I would say where has the thought of loyalty gone? If you worked for a company and made more money than you could spend in a lifetime. Set your family up so that they would be taken care of through their lifetimes. You had the opportunity to continue doing what you did to make all that money. You could pick and choose when and where you played. And show loyalty to the company that gave you the opportunity. Is it right to jump off for money? Lesser competition? Dont lie and say you love the different format or the new opportunity. Just be a man and say, "it's all about the money". I feel no loyalty to the PGA Tour and I am out for myself. I hope the PGA bans all of these guys for good and they are not allowed to play in any of the majors. Without the PGA Tour who would any of these guys be? Guys making 50k a year at the local club teaching golf to kids and middle aged ladies, and gambling with the members for a living. They'll come back, they always do, and I hope the PGA treats them with the same amount of respect and loyalty that they are treating the PGA with now.
Here’s the thing, it’s not up to you to decide when enough money is enough. Sure he’s set up by the standards you live by, I assume. what is he wants a 100 million dollar boat. He should have to forfeit his wants in life over loyalty? One of which is a lopsided relationship. Even golfers not leaving have spoken up about about the pga. I don’t owe loyalty to my employer when I can better my career by leaving. That’s asinine.

If a competing firm contacted me and said I’ll pay you exponentially more and you work 25% less house, I’m jumping ship in a heart beat. I care to venture 80% of human beings would as well.

No that's not asinine. Without someone giving you the opportunity to earn a living, you would be on the welfare roles. Maybe you are I dont know you. Dont want to. But, I do feel loyalty to my employer. They provide the environment for me to use my skills to provide for my family. Does that mean I wouldn't leave if another opportunity came along that was better? It would be something I would consider. But to say that there shouldn't be any loyalty is not asinine. Would you be OK with it if you showed up for work tomorrow and the doors were locked? No notice, no pay outs. No nothing. You do you and that's fine.

So are there advantages like less requirements when it comes to your time? In other words, play the game you love, make a big check and the rest is free time? Maybe more privacy? DJ seems like the kind of guy that would be ok with being away from the spotlight as much as he could.
Just trying to figure out the appeal. Seems like the appeal has to be bigger than money given it's a drastic move.
Pardon my ignorance, I havent really given this much attention, but with DJ leaving it has my attention now
Believe you nailed it. Less time. More money. Once you get to a certain level of wealth, time currency supersedes money. In this case, he got both.

The PGA is a monopoly and has called the shots for a long time. Nothing wrong with competition in the mix.

Also wonder if they still have to deal with the demands sponsors put on them as well. I would imagine they could be pretty demanding at times. Might be a lot of upside for these guys making a move, idk

I’m not saying there isn’t any loyalty. Loyalty would be working a notice. Loyalty would be giving you employer an opportunity to match your new offer. If that does not happen, there is no problem in leaving. Loyalty or no loyalty. To believe otherwise is what it was calling asinine. That is what happened in this situation. The pga is not willing nor do they have to play ball. But they also must understand that comes at a cost.

They can’t block them from most majors because they don’t control the field. I assume the opens would be that way and I know for a fact the pga gets no say so when it comes to the masters. As the Japan tour players have qualified for the majors. This is no different.

Why in the hell wouldn’t you jump? Dj is getting 120 million I think to join. They only have to play 3 day tournaments and there is less competition. Give me a negative because I have yet to see one. So what is the saudis go under, take that 120 and ride off into the sunset.
Loss of sponsorship is one negative. Not saying it’s a good enough reason, but since you asked…🤣

We'll see I guess. I remember what great competition the USFL was. It was novel for a few weeks then it just sort of fizzled. There are some great young golfers right now. It'll be interesting to see thier take on things and also the Ryder Cup situation. I dont know that I'll miss DJ or Oostie playing each week.

If you go to rock bottoms 1st post, it's says Bryson is going to play in the Liv tour after the US Open.

At the pro level, you want to know who's the best in the world. This new tour will cause doubt. Watered down fields will hurt professional golf. Once the newness of the new tour wears off, it will be seen as a gimmick. Guys jumping ship for an easier path to big pay days.
I wonder what criteria the Augusta National will use for player qualifications?

I don't see it, if you're not playing in the best field in the world, how can you be ranked the best.I'm sure they'll make some adjustments as they do for the DP Tour and others, but I doubt you will ever see a #1 world ranked player on the LIV Tour. I did see an interesting headline this morning stating they figured out how to get players, just keep raising the bonus money and eventually they can't say no!

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard on the golf channel that 54 hole games don't get any ranking points(or very little ).it may take a while, but eventually they won't be eligible for any thing plus lose their card, unless they still continue to play on the pga tour.

Read the PGA statement about the LIV players (lose all FedEx points, no tournaments, what we did for you and now you treat us this way, etc.) and then read the response from the LIV (we can’t believe the PGA is holding back promoting golf, etc.). The pi$$ing contest between the two has just begun.

They are going to hemorrhage money. The players that are sanctioned are going to sue the pga over it. The LIV has already stated they are willing to pick up the bill to do so. The players lose nothing and the pga will lose money fighting it. In my opinion the pga is being a little *itch.

It's certainly looking that way to me. If you arent doing the things necessary to keep people in your organization, shame on you. If you cant do the things necessary to keep them, wish them well in their endeavors and move on.

This is clearly a money laundering scheme. It's definitely not based on any business model that's meant to work. The Saudis, and their compatriots in the States will have plenty of "clean" money to spend on whatever they choose (most likely American real estate).

The Saudis will have every incentive to keep oil prices high to help fund their tour.On the golf channel today, they mentioned how much it cost to run and it wasn’t cheap. They said with no sponsorships ,tv deals etc, how long they will support this.
