Homerun hire in name only. He won't come close to recruiting the type of talent he had in Texas and with all the talent he did have, he certainly didn't deliver the expected results. I would've gone with a guy like Prohm at WKU or Miller at Dayton. Barnes is past his prime.
I'd say this is a "Dave Odom" kind of hire. A good coach past his prime that will bring passable results, without ever seriously breaking into the big-time. Considering the amount of chaos surrounding the program right now, it's probably a good hire. Bring him on board, let him maintain a decent program while things stabilize, then move onto better things.
