Excellent Column From The College Station Newspaper

I believe this viewpoint is taking hold.

From that article...

The SEC is not only on the verge of becoming the first 16-team super conference, but it’ll be hands down the best no matter what else happens. Notre Dame eventually might land in the Big Ten Conference or Atlantic Coast Conference, but adding the Irish wouldn’t vault either league past the SEC, whose football popularity is about to rival the NFL’s.

And King, by all means WADR, most of us are all fully aware that you personally prefer the we had remained within the acc, but when considering that we are now within The very first 16 team conference of these "modern times" (i.e., from lets say this year seeing as how this is the inauguration of the Supreme Court NCAA ruling and the new future of paying college athletes), are you still of the opinion that we'd be better off in the acc??

Whatever your opinion, its all good with me! I just thought I'd inquire herein seeing as how you initiated this thread.

Again WADR,

Gaim

If we ever want to win a conference championship in football, the answer is "yes". If we want to play teams - aside from our instate rival - with which we have shared historical enmity, the answer is "yes". But here's the thing: the situation is so dynamic that we could go to the ACC and find that UPC has left it. That would defeat much of the purpose. For that reason, I would like to see UPC join the SEC. In the overall, we have to stick.

Well, until UT and OU get here, then 11 of "us current members" can determine whether any given team actually gets in The SEC when such a conference meeting takes place. Right now, if I had to guess, I'd say UTenn, UGAly and US would certainly vote against UPC, with UF, BAMA, AU as-well-as Vandy most likely voting against such as-well. I mean all the teams I brought up, I did so from a perspective as to how having UPC join The SEC would deeply affect recruiting within these southeastern states of Bama, Florida, Georgia, Carolina(s) & Tennessee.

Just my theoretical opinion there FWIW!

Well Clemsux recruits nationally and seems to not have a problem getting who they want most of the time. They already affect all of our recruiting in the schools you mentioned. I just don't see much of an affect.

I think that, if the league is open to going beyond 16 and UPC wants to get in, they will get in and we will vote for it. It would only enhance the passion of the rivalry which, quite frankly, owing to our ineptitude, has lost something.
