So yesterday, I detailed how the talent through recruiting has changed. I believe it helped explain just how down the program Muschamp inherited was. Today I will go through the offense position groups comparing today's with what he walked into.

QB's: It isn't a secret that great QB play is the engine behind most great teams. It is even more important than when the rest of the supporting cast is not elite. Outside of some some hyper=elite teams like Bama, that has been able to get away with game managers at many times, almost all top teams need the great signal caller.

2015 Room:

C Mitch
P Orth
M Scar
L Nunez

Coach: GA Magnus

2019 Room:

J Bentley
D. Joyner
R Hilinski
J Ulrich

Coach Dan Werner

Its really pointless contrasting here. From one of the least talented QB rooms to one of the countries best. Even with Ulrich moving to receiver, Bentley graduating and perhaps Kereon eventually moving this staff is bringing in more talent every year. Luke Doty is a high 4 star that is developing rapidly, and Carolina already has a couple guys in cross hairs for the 2021 class. Take a look at coaching.....

RB's:

2015 Room:

B Wilds
D Williams
S Carson
M Denson
AJ Turner

Coach: Everett Sands

2019 Roomt:

R Dowdle
M Denson*
AJ Turner **
D Fenwick
K Harris
T Feaster

Coach: Thomas Brown

Let's start with 800lb gorilla in this post. Yes, I am more sure of Feaster becoming a member of this class than any other player ;left on our board. He would step in and immediately be the best rb on the team. This is partially due to his talent(if he stays healthy he is a draft pick) and partially due to the low quality and depth of our running backs. I think AJ Turner(one of our two rb left overs) is our best back, but he is going to CB. Obviously the #1 priority in this upcoming class and 5 star M.L. should help a lot and if Tank joins, it will be a very good, albeit thin, room again. Still, until Feaster is in fold, there is a not a large difference in rooms. Both are at the bottom of the SEC. Take a look at coaches though.

Wide Receivers

2015 WR Room:

P Cooper
D Samuel
S Jeffery
T Googer
S Davidson
J Christianson
J Washington
C Owens

WR Coach: Bubba Spurrier

2019 WR Room:

B Edwards
S Smith
O Smith
R Davis
C Terrell
J Vann
C Dawkins
K Mullins
X Leggette

WR Coach BMac

As you look at very top of these classes and see Deebo and Pharroh on top, that's elite. However, Boom never got to have Coop on his squad and only player, and a great one, he received was Deebo. Today Carolina has 2 NFL players in Edwards(credit that he was coming to SC and re=recruited by Champs staff) and Shi. Lots of potential talent in line although injuries and incoming talent make them just speculating(Davis and Otre have some proof they can play) For one day, I would take the Coop and Samuel, for a team I wouldn't blink at taking the 2019 class. As much as I like Bubba as a developer and teacher at WR, his recruiting was so bad, and Bmac is dynamic.

2015 TE Room:

H Hurst
KC Crosby
J Adams
C Reddmond
K Markaway
J August

TE Coach: Not Listed I think I recall it was Joe Robinson

2019 TE Room:

T Kennion
W Register
K Pollard
E Hinson
K Markaway
K Toney

TE Coach: Bobby Bentley

As lopsided as the QB room was for the 2019 class, the TE class was just as lopsided for the 2015 class. Can Pollard break through? Can Toney max out and be Adams? Can Kennion bea max out and come close to Hurst? If everyone maxes out, they can be comparable but that almost never happens. Still prefer the coaching

2015 OL Room:

D Stanley
Z Bailey
C Pellage
B Camper
M Young
C Stadnick
C Helms
A Knott
C Waldrop
W Sport
T Derouen
DJ Park
B Shell
M Zandi
M Matulis

OL Coach/Head Coach: Sean Elliot

2019 OL Room:

S Hutcherson
J Nichols
J Moore
M Fox
J Carty
D Wonnum
W Rogers(Who?)
J Gywnn
W Campbell
D Stanley*
E Douglas
S Carrly
J Rhodes
MJ Webb
C Ferrell
H Manos
V Murphy

OL Coach: Eric Wolford

The one position that a couple young pieces were actually left in place from previous staff: Bailey and Stanley, both who have started since Boom arrived. Now, this is an upperclass driven position, great lines almost always are loaded with 3-5th year players on 2 deep, and those were only 2 players left over. Today, 1st through 3rd year guys competeting for starting positions because the depth was so bad. Shell didnt come into his own until he went to the league. I think that was the Hunt effect early in his career at Carolina. Overall, better, deeper and finally a chance in a year or two to be dominating at OL. Something we haven't seen or even been close to since Holtz/Latina days.. As far as coaching, Elliot was stuck with Hunts guys when he walked in, similar to Boom walking into Spurriers guys. He started getting some guys ;last class Bailey and Stanley) but you only can do so much with a couple freshman and a pile of FCS level guys. I have respect for him as a coach but Wolford is a top 3 probably national as far as evaluating and coaching combined.
