What do you think of Shame Beamer now???

Did it iimprove your confidence on Beamer?

Remember, Beamer was the reason Spurrier had great season at South Carolina...

When it comes to Beamer's contribution to Spurrier's success here, let's not get too carried away.
Beamer was Spurrier's recruiting coordinator for 2009 - 2010

In his final two years in Columbia, Beamer also served as recruiting coordinator for the Gamecocks. The 2009 class was ranked 12th best in the nation by Scout.com and Rivals.com and included future NFL draft picks Stephon Gillmore and Alshon Jeffery.[5]Both the 2010 and 2011 recruiting classes ranked in the top 25 and included future South Carolina stars Marcus Lattimore and Connor Shaw.[5]

This paid dividend for back to back to back 11-2 seasons....

I know exactly what Beamer's role was back then. But he was recruiting for STEVE FREAKING SPURRIER.

Now he's recruiting for his own name. I've been keeping quiet about Beamer's recruiting class thus far because I'm willing to wait and see what the final product is (not to mention what Beamer's actual game day coaching looks like).

And while this particular transfer is definitely promising, it doesn't change the fact that our closest rivals are recruiting circles around us -- so far.

Spurrier wasn't a world beater before Beamer was assigned as the recruiting coordinator...

So Spurrier never had success as a head coach before Beamer came along? Don't get me wrong. I give Beamer credit as a RC. Especially when Junior just didn't even put in any effort when he was gifted the the same role.

But Spurrier had a HOF record before he ever set foot in Columbia. And my comment about the current recruiting class still stands.

We're talking about at South Carolina.. Spurrier hated recruiting and he was struggling after his second year at Carolina, going 6-6, 7-6 and 7-6 in the next three seasons. Remember, he went to the pro's for several years out of college ranks and didn't develop a relations with the HS coaches. Like Jr., Spurrier relayed on his name to bring players in... That only get's you so far in college..

Yeah, Spurrier owes his success to Beamer. This board is insane.

WOW!!! I can feel the love for Beamer and forget what he did when he was here under Spurrier... Maybe you and other folks may need a trip down memory lane... Do you think we go 11-2 three years in a row without Beamer being the recruiting coordinator???

Impossible to say. I guess if the RC was junior, no. But suffice to say, I think you're overselling this.

Considering we just went 2-8 that is to be expected. Let’s see what happens this season and where we stand after that.

I'm not overselling Beamer, I've seen what he can do as a recruiter and heard from HS coaches how much they dislike Jr as the recruiting coordinator... Jr assumed players would be knocking down our doors, he didn't want to work to get players.. The name "Spurrier" was all he thought would bring players to South Carolina...

At SC….that’s the way I interpreted this post. No one is claiming Beamer made Spurrier, but our teams improved when he was RC.

I realize we're talking about USC. But Spurrier won games with the talent on hand he had no business winning with in his very first year. He also had to overcome the loser attitude hovering over the entire fanbase. Considering how quickly we've fallen back to it, that's no small feat. But he did eventually.

Again, not discounting Beamer's contributions to it. But make no mistake that Spurrier was the reason we were winning.

We totally agree on Junior Numbnuts' pathetic tenure as RC. And Spurrier owns that move for sure. Especially when Jay Graham supposedly left after getting passed over for that position.

But is it all possible that that dichotomy has exacerbated the perception of the recruiting of the Spurrier era?

New coaches bring in new hope. I remember Brad Scott and Will Muschamp being talked up as great recruiters.

You forgot Clowney. He didn’t leave until after Clowney signed.

You guys are underestimating Coach Beamer. The only reason Tanner hired Beamer was because he was forced by the number of former players who played under Beamer...

Do you remember when we were looking for a coach and you guys wanted Lincoln Riley and Kirby Smart with no head coach experience but a lot of recruiting experience and personal interaction with players and we ended up with the best SEC coach that was misunderstood by Florida fans who didn't give him enough time to ruin a program...

In time, Beamer will be the next Steve Spurrier at South Carolina and will have better numbers after his 3rd year as head coach... And will beat Clemson in his 3rd or 4th year at Carolina... Muschamp really F'cked us up...

Mark my words... You'll wish we hired him earlier before Muschamp was hired...

While I like Beamer, I’m not sure that a recruiting coordinator can get the credit for the quality of recruits. The primary responsibility for that position is primarily administrative and coordinating every thing from visits to paperwork, clearinghouse, etc.

Are you guys underestimating Coach Beamer because his first name is Shane???

Our best recruiting class under Spurrier came in 2007. A class that Shane Beamer had very little impact on as he wasn't hired until 2007.

Shane Beamer is like a surgeon cuttin for the very first time. We have the best head coach in the country that has never been a head coach before. And the SEC is a good place for a first year head coach to start. We only won 6 football games over the past 2 years, but I blame that on Frank Muschamp. We are currently ranked #31 in recruiting. Who wants 5 star recruits when the funner challenge is coaching up 3 star recruits. So yea, Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M, Clemson, those are all losses in 2022, but you got to start somewhere. I do think we have a legit shot at 8 wins in 2023. Clemson better lookout for 2024. We commin
