Home State Success
-----South Carolina has held its own in its home state(dominated in state recruiting during this time,) hauling in top recruits like Marcus Lattimore, Alshon Jeffery, Stephon Gilmore and Jadeveon Clowney -----
<IMO, arguably the best culmination of D1 talent in that short of time frame that the state of South Carolina has EVER produced>
<it certainly hasn’t dominated like most SEC schools do in when they’re the only SEC school in town(5 years ago this isn't the truth but it is now)>
-----The Gamecocks have signed, on average, about three of the top-10 prospects in the state in each of the last five years, nabbing the state’s top player twice in that span-----
<Again, the talent acquisition of the elite instate guys was dominated by South Carolina for two or three years. Now, it's leveled out between UGA, South Carolina, Clemson, and possibly UNCheat. This also covers the statement made about snatching recruits from Georgia>
Recent Success
-----Even as South Carolina rose to become one of the best programs in the East from 2010-13, the recruiting classes didn’t quite match up-----
<If you look at teams with the overall highest level of sustained success, you will most often find one of the common denominators to reaching/maintaining that level of success starts with recruiting the 4&5 star Jimmies and Joes. Yes, there will always be outliers to any statistic now matter how you dice it up but more often than not, those Jimmies and Joes can quickly erase on the field woes.>
<Scar's success on the field was a biproduct of talent acquisition, great player development(S&C program, position coaches, etc,) hitting the jackpot on a few under the radar diamonds-in-the-rough(Shaw spearheads this list,) and capitalizing on a few of the year-in-year-out SECe contenders hitting a lull. All of those variables were strengthened by having a HoF coach on the sideline>
<It can be taken as a backhanded compliment that you guys piled up all of those wins by going against the norm, but it is still a compliment nonetheless>
<I can't agree with the author on UGA being in the same tier of quality opponent as Bama&LSU especially since Richt, like Dabo, has had fits in their matchups against Scar the last few years>
Fan Satisfaction
-----Coming off of three straight 11-win seasons, the thinner recruiting class of 2013 and 2014 — the latter of which had a slew of players not qualify academically along with nine decommitments from the 2015 class— caught up to South Carolina-----
<I don't see how this isn't a fair observation. Year in and year out it's crucial to recruit for a teams needs. If you are unsuccessful at filing those needs with equal or greater talent how could you not expect some level of dropoff?>
<At Scar, the rate of attrition of early departures to the NFL, failure to get crucial high caliber players enrolled to fill in for the attrition(instead you had to go the JUCO route to fill those needs,) not successfully recruiting equal/greater talent at positions of need, striking out on a couple diamonds-in-the rough, replacement of position coaches with subpar/lazy hires(Brad Lawing is a top5 D-line coach and his leaving couldn't have been avoided I know,) Spurrier making the 2/3 year comment at the worst possible time, and not capitalizing on the momentum built up from the three 11 win seasons to avoid the massive drop-off of on the field performance witnessed last season are all areas that can be fixed. I just don't see how in one year, those issues can be resolved>
Coaching Stability
-----There's no need to rub salt into the wound here.-----
<Spurrier is a HoF coach and quite possibly the best active game day coach in the nation.... there's no denying it. >
<Lorenzo Ward is a downgrade from Ellis Johnson>
<Deke Adams is a downgrade from Brad Lawing>
<The biggest piece, IMO, is Craig Fitzgerald. His loss was a major blow to ya'll's S&C program>
Sum it Up
<The SEC gives Scar massive amounts of cash. That's great. There isn't one sane person that would argue that they would turn down that massive amount of cash. Not one. That being said, a large portion of the Scar fanbase is under the guise that by netting more money than Clemson(or any other Major D1 school) will instantly add more W's in the win column. Yeah, not true. Point in case: Texas Longhorns(They bring in more cash than ANY school in the country and still manage to suck.) What that money does do for Scar(and any other institution) is help to keep the playing field equal when it comes to facilities game. In modern CFB, it is a necessity for any university that wishes to compete in the recruiting race that they have updated facilities and continuously update those facilities(even if it's not really necessary) and build more when needed. This would prove to be a MASSIVE advantage for Scar if Clemson was in the Mountain West conference or some other less than D1 conference that gets chump change from conference payouts>
<The disparity in cash brought in by the SEC in comparison to its counterparts is, without a doubt, a massive amount more than any other conference and it should, in fact, stir envy from rival conferences. I can't lie about that. My stance, unless proven otherwise, will still be that more money does not directly add w's in the win column; however, it sure helps provide a hell of a monetary foundation to help any university weather most storms.>
-----I think all in all, the article was a pretty good synopsis of where Scar is currently and where they are headed if some things don't change.-----
