So I went to my daughters 3:00 PM graduation at the Colonial Life Arena. It was well done and Dr. Pastidies did a great job. Nikki Haley spoke and she had to interject that she was a Clemson fan, as they all have to do. But what was really great, was this guy sauntered up to the microphone and sung the National Anthem as easy, and as well, as I have ever heard it. There was absolutely no artistic interpretation, it was sung as it was written and was fantastic. We have over the years discussed how this was sung before at sporting events. I for one thinks that he nailed it to perfection. As I have said before, "if it is good enough for the Marines, it is good enough for me." I hope others in attendance will agree.

I hate it when the performer makes the song all about them too.

gaye, marvin started the interpretive crap in 1983
I think Jose Feliciano beat Marvin by about 15 years and also Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock. Not to split the frog hair too fine but there is no monolithic standard for the national anthem. Every time it is sung it is an interpretation. Country, bluegrass, rock and roll, and classically trained singers have all done wonderful renditions. Those same genres have botched it. I too tend to want a straight forward, fast paced version. The only thing I really want is the singer to convey respect and love for our country

Dawn Staley did a great job! Even my son who isn't a sports nut thought Dawn had a lot good points to make in life and what she did to over come her own faults as a player and as a coach...
